    Should I switch to Mac?

Today I was at the apple store and saw all the beautiful computer stuff they have there. I am looking for a new laptop, and was wondering if I should abandon my love for PC's and try a Mac laptop. I'm not one of those coputer noobs, I've been working on and building PC's for over 6 years. I do lots of basic stuff (internet, school work, etc.) but I also do some video and photo editing, and some bitorrent downloading.

What's your opinion? Are macs worth the extra price? Do they provide the same amount of customizability as PC's?

    Thanks for your input.

You Under-Estimate the Power of the Dark Side of the Force (Macs). The Dark side leads to anger, anger leads to self destruction. I used macs in school, I hated them, then again I didnt know much about them. I have been building my own computers since I was 14. PC FTW

eh windows sucks and i hate MS like the devil,

my next computer is definatly going to be a powerbook, anyone that asks what computer they should buy next i tell them a mac

to those that think that macs suck, they did suck untill osx. if you still think they suck obviously you arent up with the latest technology, go and have a look at the osx movies and screenshots, of course nothings as nice as the real thing

to those who thinks that all programs are on windows, thats funny? i mean some awesome programs are mac only, adium, delicious library, and then theres all the pro apps such as logic. additionally all the sucky programs youre used to are avaliable like office :P

in summary, i used to hate macs but if you havent had a good look at them recently you are really missing out!

There's no use for them. I see no macs in any computer labs anywhere because they aren't necessary. There's no advantage to them. If you're going to install Linux on one, have fun with the ppc architechture. Sure, the apps you need to use are there, but nothing more. There's nothing you need a mac for that a PC can't do.

theres macs in some of our computer labs, especially in the artsy areas

i'm not sure why you would want to use linux over osx but most linux distros are compiled for ppc anyway, plus in a year most macs will be x86

i could use this same argument with windows, theres nothing a pc can do that a mac cant do. but there has to be something to differentiate them so that people would chose one or the other dosent there.

    So what differentiates them?

OPERATING SYSTEM - osx is a hell of a lot better than windows, granted windows hasnt been *that* bad stability wise since xp, it has however been plagued by viruses and spyware which osx does not suffer from

SOFTWARE - some software is only avaliable for one system of the other, fortunatly all the software i like is avaliable on osx, plus its easier to emulate windows programs on osx than the other way around

DESIGN - some macs i find ugly as hell, some i find sexy. there are some pretty cool x86 cases too though but overall i like the design of *most* macs better
