If a fingernail gets ripped off, will it grow back?

Allright just wondering that if a fingernail would happen to get ripped off would a new one grow back or not. I know that if you smash your finger and kill your fingernail a new one will grow behind it but if it gets ripped completely off will it grow back? Please say it will

I'm nut sure.. you might want to have a doctor look at it.

I think there is a "root" part of the nail where the growing happens.. I supose if this part is intact it will grow back.. but could look deformed. I have a funny looking big toe nail. I snapped the nail running down stairs.. long story

Yes it will.. my toenail fell off last week after being bruised for months... its already growing back. I've lost a few fingernails in my life time. Damn i miss football!

i've lost a toenail in some bilco doors behind my house. I also smashed my thumb once and lost that fingernail. Both grew back

yeah, it will grow back, I got mine ripped off when I was 12 or 13. I actually had to get stitches in my nail bed, but it grew back, it'll take forever though
