It doesn't. It leaves a security hole in your system when you run it. My company has A) treated this problem as a virus infection and banned Sony CD's from our computers; B) sent out another note telling people not to run the rootkit removal tool.
They're ****ed and everyone else should be too.

Sorry to bring up an old topic and to go a little off topic with it;;
The music indutry is now screwing over musicians , Ive been using a site ( http://www.mysongbook.com/ ) since a few years, to get tabs and submit some , these tabs are used with a program ( Guitar Pro ).
Anyways, now the music indutry is going down on these sites that offer tabs that people like you and me made by ear and submitted to the site.

the bottom line is this: if you want your pop rock fag iconic boy bands and Titney spears inflatable singers keep going that route. Music exists on all levels and in all places. Do I buy cd's? yeah- I get suckered in too, but I also support the local music scene. I'd rather buy a cd-r from some kids dwon the street than spend another dime to sony records- who by the way owns like 1000 other labels,lol. The truth is that I am a music nut and if I want cd quality, pro mastered music I either have to buy a cd or copy someones. I am willing to pay 10-20 bucks for a good disc, no big deal- but you start ******* with my media playing machines and I will ******* snap.
current system: car2pc adapter playing aux in for a sansa fuze media player. simple. cheap. effective.
The Sony RootKit is just a start .... and they will pay for it.
A corporation that big putting malicious spyware on users computers that have every intention of abiding by the license agreement on the package.
Soon, if you say, " hey, I like that new song by ______ ", some RIAA trencoated person will jump out of the bushes and say," XYZ company own's the name _____ that you just spoke of .... please deposit 2.5 cents for your statement that was not previously approved by company XYZ "
But this Sony Rootkit thing will blow up bigtime. Many Many people are not aware of it.
Similar to the Audio DVD's a few years ago. They had something on the outside layer that would confuse a computer, but play in a DVD player. So when you stick it in your computer ... (PC) Freezes (MAC) Must remove drive and disassemble to get DVD out, or Mac totally useless, cuz if it hangs the drive, you can't drag to trash to eject ... Mac owners were ****ED !!!!
People were able to listen to them on computers by applying black marker/tape around outer ring.
I think if Bin Laden would have directed those planes to RIAA HQ, september elevent would be worldwide freedom day.
EDIT: Just realised that after ECHELON parses this statement... entering states can provide me free torture... i guess thats what free america is about...
