    Help with a internet problem..

No, I have found all the porn. This is a diffrent problem!

When i start my home pc my dial-up connection window pops up on the desktop and if i click connect it connects then starts sending and reciving data as fast as it can.

I have no idea what it is connecting to or why, or, how i find these things out.

I thought it was some sort of virus or adware but i have just done a clean install of xp pro (after a full hdd format), installed a brandnew antivirus package and now, after a couple of days it has started doing it again!

This is a right pain as i only get 28.8k anyway and this 'data transfer' is sucking the life out of it!

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Could it be windows update - or the antivirus software
they both like to do that junk - and do you have SP2
"Service Pack 2" - if not, then may be your getting
infected by a virus - with out SP2 even just connecting
to the internet for a few seconds gets you infected
    - ether way you need a good firewall software - and
the firewall that comes with windows does nothing

Install ZoneAlarm and see what is connecting to the internet. Make everything ask permission before connecting.

    Especially at 28.8

I also vote for ZoneAlarm. It is free and pretty good.

One of my buddys got the AIM virus that is going around and didn't know about it. I had not heard about the problem, either, and happened to click the link in one of his messages to me. It has an autodialer incorporated into it. Nothing like 7 viruses, ~150 spyware and 1 autodialer detected within 30 mins of clicking the link. >_<

If it's a probably laying hands on ZoneAlarm, throw up the Windows Firewall. It's *something*
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Get zone alarm(free edition), it will be a pain on a modem, but worth it in the end. Did you repartion and format in xp (it's in the blue screen end of a CD boot setup) it's possible otherwise that something is still lurking. The downloading certainly doesn't sound like normal behavior. Also try googling for Hijack This!, a small program which may be able to identify which progam/process is at fault. Good luck.
