If it has front wheel drive, it WILL NOT go fast.

Hmmm...so what's your definition of "go fast?"

The NIRA record for a FWD car is 8.499 @ 171.93mph. I guess that's Sunday driving, huh?

Round 8 of the Speedvision World Challenge, Touring Car race at Laguna Seca, Roger Foo beat 41 other cars while driving a Civic Si . Various versions of BMW's 328 were a big part of the fielded cars.

Saying "if it has front wheel drive, it WILL NOT go fast" is a very, very poor generalization.

So if it's FWD, it won't go fast ? Wow .. I though that generally, society becomes more inteligent as time passes ... I suppose not.

So I suppose all you "rice-haters" should fall into your own in-breed then ... how about "chrom-queens" ?

Lol ... this is "really manly" .. how about an engine "dress-up" kit ...

    LOL

Go out shopping with the other girlies and finish up the day with a "dress-up" kit .. lol ... maybe you can play "doctor" too ... lol

All you people who have ever called someone a rice-boy are both pathetic, and ignorant. Do you honestly think people tweak their cars the way they do to impress _you_ ? .. you really are vain!

Or are you just jealous that you can't afford what the "rice-boys" can ?

    Grow up people.

It's not just the cars, it's the culture.

I'm just sick of people knocking other's pride.

People should learn to respect effort and accomplishment!

It makes me furious to hear the expression "rice-boy" because it represents a growing population of ignorant twits who seem to be stuck in the 1980s with their non-emmisions friendly camaros and firebirds.

Why not appreciate somebody's efforts? Just because it's not to _your_ taste doesn't mean it's not to _theirs_

Once again, time to grow up people. Don't think that these "rice-boys" do what they do to impress _you_ .. because that's pretty damn vain.

Taking any car (more most often front drive Hondas) and performing mainly appearance modifications (exhaust tips, massive wheels, ugly wings, etc.), or performing performance modifications for the sake of appearance. Normally, those performance modifications are simple bolt on items like intakes, exhaust, lowering, bought more for the look than the performance gain (which, in a car like a Honda, is usually very minimal). Ricers normally have very little knowledge of actual performance modifications, and indeed very little car knowledge (they're the ones that claim they have turbo 10 second Civics, and when you look under the hood you clearly seet he headers...). That's rice.

Not long ago, you were goading about buying a turbo for your RX-7 .. surely that qualifies. [bolt-on]
This conversion is anything but bolt-on. The turbo unit bolts on (they all do) but since I am converting the NA to turbo without an engine swap, there is substantial fabrication required (oil and water feeds, new fuel injection, intercooler piping, etc.). This is no simple kit, and requires substantial knowledge of the rotary engine as well as turbo systems in general.

Does changing to wider, low-profile rims/rubber qualify as ricing-out?
Not really, unless you go to ridiculous extremes (ie. 23 inch wheels that stick out from the fenders by 4 inches).

Your "basic performance mods" certainly qualify .. now don't they ?
No, and I don't consider "basic performance mods" on any car to be rice. Although I have to wonder why someone would spend so much money on modifications on a Honda to only eek out 10 more HP. Seems to me they should start with a high performance car to begin with.

    .. seems like a double-standard to me
Rice is a difficult concept to explain because everyone's opinions on what makes it are so different. It generally causes quite a few disagreements.
