I regularily post using a Compaq LTE5100 laptop...It's a P90 with 40 megs of RAM running Win98SE. It's actually quite fast.
Tools can be pretty expensive to just go out and buy, so I usually make one major tool purchase per year. I started out buying a cordless drill, then got a jigsaw, etc...I just borrow what I don't have. My latest was a Deca arc welder. Probably the most useful tool I ever bought...

Whats wrong with a P75 with 8megs of ram and a 1 gig drive??![]()
Nothing in my opinion. It probably has more than enough power to decode mp3s. I decode on a p233 with less than 20% cpu usage by making sure that the whole song is buffered before starting (my player loads the next song using spare cpu whilst playing the current one - I wish asynchronous PC disk access was easier like with consoles).Originally posted by SkinnyBoy:

Old Systems retired due to new car
New system at design/prototype stage on BeagleBoard.
Using MPXPLAY my P75 uses about 80% CPU, I think, I haven't used it for a LONG time...
Charles, once again, you have shown how insanely idiotic you are. Do you think the only kind of setup should include a <500mhz computer and a TFT?
You do notice the name of the site is MP3car, correct? Not TFTcar, or DVDcar, but Mp3car.
WE JUST WANT MP3s!
Backoff, we don't want to buy your proprietary, VB joke of a program.

Calm down dude! I want MP3s plus more hell if all we wanted was mp3s we would be here building out own NEOs or RIO Nomads not a full PC in the car. Now with a full PC means you can do anything a PC does.
Charles doesn't have a POS VB program hell he has spent time on the thing hacking GPS software to work inside of his program and the mp3 scan/search logic is the the best way of doing it. I have spent time talking to Charles in the chatroom about his program it is very nicely done. Granted I don't use it due to the fact it does too much. Also wanted my own custom interface.
Hell I program in VB (yes make fun of what you don't know go ahead I don't give a rat ***) also know C, C++ , Perl, FoxPro, x86 Assembly, Java, list goes on. Nothing wrong with VB except those people who think it still is Basic and requires some .dll to run (oh unlike VS C++ which most people link .dlls instead of compiling it into the code which VB can do too)

Yikes. Uh, I won't close the topic just because Charles was specifically addressed, and I'll leave it up to him to decide what to do.
