All but the Cherokee
The Trooper and 4runner should last you to at least 200,000 miles.

Well, I'm selling My Lincoln, and I need some opinions for my new car.
I talked to Squeezer, and he suggests a Honda Accord, which I think would ok,
but does anyone know how any of these models hold up (about the 88 model or so)
Isuzu Trooper
4runner
and a Jeep Cherokee
Thanks.

Gathering parts for carplayer v2.0!
Thats what I figured.
I'm gonna look at all of them.
I may even consider an accord, and I can always save up and drop a better engine in if I'm unhappy with a 4cyl (No, I'm not a ricer, and it wouldn't be a Ricer engine).

Hey, dont knock the Jeep.
I'm driving an 87 Cherokee with 230,000 miles on it. origional motor and tranny.
Go for the imports if you really want to pay 2-3 times as much for the same type of part.
As for the Jeep, I would avoid the 2.8L V6. the 2.5L 4 cyl. is ok, and the 4.0L straight 6 is the engine to get. Other than that, its a matter of options that you want. Remember that the Cherokee did not change its design for MANY years, so parts are easy to find.
Just thought that I would throw that in

Hmmm, I may get a Jeep then.
I do see an awful lot of older ones on the road.

I have had (and still do) all three engine types that I mentioned above in Jeeps. I know these vehicles in and out because my family has had a love affir with them for many years. That and mustangs....
So feel free to shoot out any questions you might have...

Basically, is 1800$ to much for 1989 Jeep Cherokee, or is to little (meaning something is wrong). Is it a good vehicle, how long will it last?

I love jeeps. Take out the A/C vent (just below the stereo and A/C controls) and it's a perfect size for... A 40X4 LCD!
I guess I can't say much ('91 Cherokee 4.0L 105k miles), but my family has had them for years without any problems. My uncle has a '90 with 175k on it. A little rust, but runs like a dream.
4.0L is definately the way to go. The 4x4 and A/C systems are okay, but they need to be used at least a couple times a month, otherwise the seals go bad and you can't use them any more. Not that they ruin other parts of the car, you simply can't use them. When looking around (especially from wealthier folks) many cars are simply kept for their kids/family when they are in town on vacation. Steer clear of those! Get something nicely used.
So your saying, get something with High miles, thats been used all of the time, rather than old with low miles thats just been sitting around?
I'm gonna call a few people tonight.
