    Smile Rice...A definition/explanation

So the word "rice" get's thrown around a lot in automotive discussion nowadays, and a lot of people have different meanings of rice. This leads to much confusion. I happened to find the "dictionary" definition on the Net somewhere, and it makes perfect sense to me. It's below, paraphrased...

Rice/ricer: one who attempts through "bolt ons" to increase performance of non-performance enconomy cars. These cars may be domestic or forign in origin, and very little (if any) performance increase is achieved through the ricer modification process. This process ususally involves the installation of ugly rear wings (on FWD cars), enormous exhaust tips and other non-functional "performance" items. Ricers are normally identified by the large amount of stickers (for products they don't have) on their vehicles, and their general lack of automotive knowledge, as well as their cocky and ignorant attitude. Note that "rice" can be applied to even performance cars if they are done in such bad taste.

    Examples:
-Rice: Honda Civic w/6" exhaust tip, aluminium rear wing, 22" wheels, $300 worth of stickers (NOS, Mugen, etc...), combat style body kit, some ungodly shade of pastel paint, seatbelt covers, Altezza style lights, painted interior plastic (can't match rest of car), lowered to the point it scrapes the ground.
-Not rice: Honda Civic, internal engine modifications, turbo setup, chassis mods, weight reduction, handling mods (not necessarily slammed into the ground), real exhaust system, etc.

So there you go. I still don't know why someone would want to modify a Honda Civic, but at least it's respectable if actual performance increasing modifications are done...

Boltons for any car are fine, and it doesn't matter if you increase the performance of economy cars. It's the exhuast tips, and stickers, and body kits, and wheels, and things like that. There are respectable hondas that run low 1/4 times but they look stock or close to it, and could not be considered rice.

I would have thought that wider wheels (with decent tyres) would give better performance, since the extra rubber would help when cornering/stopping.

But apart from that, im agreed. We have cars like that in the UK, even though you never hear the term "rice"... stock 1.2 litre engine (wow.... 60hp!), massive exhaust, pointless spoilers, etc.... It`s always nice to know someone has a slower car then you
