as for rafster, i was born 84 too. I'd say we're half and half. In elementry school the internet was around......just not really used. We had prodigy at home....and its sucked. School PCs had oregon trail and number munchers.....and that was about it. Wait no....there was some math based rocket ship game cant remember much else.....if you were lucky you had an early version of sim city. Your home PC might have wolfenstien.....which was pretty sweet. The kids who had bad parents had leisure suit larry....if anyone remembers that.

As for the whole no microwave thing......I dont remember not having a microwave...not sure about cable TV, when I was really little I dont think we could afford it. But walkmans were the ****!

Born in '89, and I'll admit it, I'm lazy as ****.

I do work and hold a job, I'm not one of the spolied youth, I pay for most everything I buy, yes that does include phone bills, insurance, and gas. Most of the time, I'll either be workin on school, work, or sleeping.

First PC I got was 133 MHz, and Yukon Trail has some sweet graphics! I didn't use the internet until I was about 10 or so, seeing as I didnt need it. Even then it was for stupid stuff like comics and lego's.

Im an '85 kid. I dont own a TV (a few computers) so cables out of the question. I own maybe one or two video games. Everything that I enjoy I paid for myself.

Its all in your upbringing. If your kid is demanding a cell phone tell him sure if he helps pay the bill. Hes 9 years old, so tell him he has to pay 5 dollars a month for the phone. That said it is also a safety thing to have cell phones today.

No offense intended, its not all the fault of the kids (p.s. you are probably a good father for recognizing the wording "Need")

Hehe, anyone rememeber Compuserve in the old days before AOL bought them out? Email addy were numbers (Like ICQ)...

I didn't know **** about the internet until my big brother got AOL for DOS v1.0 or something like that. Before that, I just dialed in to the local computer mag's BBS and downloaded **** from them.

Talk about computer games, back in 1st grade on Apple IIs one of my favorite games was Pic-a-dilee. After that, we got Windows 3.1 machines and I used to play Battle Chess.... DAMN, that game was fun.

    Peace,

    Rafster
