HP makes the best laser printers, bar none.
You can get a low-end Laserjet 1000-series for about $130 retail. Less if you hunt.

I'd like to latch onto an old LaserJet 4, preferrably a 4mv (I think). Those suckers last forever.

Some Samsung models require a non-standard driver that won't allow you to share the printer on a network.
I have seen problems with Lexmark printers, and don't like that brand in general. I know others who swear by Lexmark.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

I always use either HP or Samsung, don't like Brother, used them at a company I worked at and they were always failing and the costs are astronomical for toner and drums.

At work we use, Lexmark laser printers and at home I use Samsung laser printer. I got the Samsung for around $80 after rebate at Office Depot. Be prepared for expensive cartridges with any laser printer...almost cheaper to buy a new printer every time you need toner!

I about halfway through Darque's post before realizing that this thread is about laser printers, not laser pointers!

The part about only needing a black and white one ereally got me confused. Sorry to say I can't help you with printers, off to bed before I misread something else...

    Another vote for HP

and yes our main B/W laser printer in the office is a HP 4. (in french )

Stay away from ones which load the paperfrom above in a vertical plane, ie the 5L, 6L etc.

I personally liked the 5Si and 8000's Stripped many of those babies down to the metal

Use a samsung SCX-4016 printer/copier here I found at Best Buy for around $90, works great. Buy your toner online and save a little at least.
