When you connected to the GS did you renew your IP and made sure you were getting an IP from the first G's DHCP?
I looked twice at the pic I posted and they have it setup wrong, or at least the PCs on the second router are double NATed, which is only really a problem if you needed to forward a port to a PC on the second router.
LAN port to LAN port is best.
Also, make sure only one router is providing DHCP services
I've used two routers at home using both methods.... That way in the manual is probably the easiest because you can leave all the router functions on, but I like having everything on the same subnet and just using one as a simple switch, easier for printer/file sharing and I don't have to mess with port forwarding on two routers then.
