There's so much more driver input with a manual which = more fun imo.
And when you buy new you can save the extra cash for much better options
A long time ago I let a girlfriend drive my standard trans car to see how she'd do. She had just bought a brand new Civic and then drove mine about 50ft and said "Damn I coulda had AC".

I have 4 cars and they are all manual. even my gf drives manual. its cool. i started with manual in 16 and during these 5 years ive been happy. no problem with traffic jams or anything, u get used to it. unless u wanna use one of ur hands to hold the soda and the other to hold ur sandwich, then auto is better, however i still drive like that with my manual. tiptronic is cool if its a good quality one, some of em are so slow in changing gears, maybe even slower than auto. like the one on peugeot 206, well the one we have.

automatic doesnt bother me much but i rather be driving manual we have 2 autos and a manual (summer driver for my dad --- forget bout me touching that) so i drive my friends manual car here and there, much more fun. My fathers A4 has tiptronic, personnaly i find its not close to being perfect. Its a very indirect feel, if you shift to 2nd (push up on the lever ) it takes a 2 second lag period.

    my 2 cents

wtf!!!! I drive though bristol traffic with a manual and it is fine. Also i find i am more dangerous with an auto when tired as I forget it just goes! The first time I drove an auto was coming back from the airport after my mate drove there for his flight. He was watching me drive off and I realised i had no idea how to drive an auto. then a taxi boxed me in so i quickly had to learn the importance of that big brake pedal!!!

tbh i did kind of like it but then when i get back into manual - no contest! Something indeed manly about gripping that gear stick and dropping down a gear and accelerating past someone

oh and one more thing...if you learn good clutch control heavy traffic is a doddle as you dont have to use the accelerator or brake as much (can just use the handbrake if you want and dont need to show brake lights to some dumb bint behind to make her stop). And with a manual you can mess around in traffic doing wheelspins and if you have good torque just leave the car in second or higher if deisel.

I love MTs the only other problem I have is when I'm in a very hilly area, and there's a stop light right at the top of the hill. I always roll back....

    Peace,

That's the secret trick one of the previous posters was talking about.

On a steep hill with someone right on your bumper? No problem. Do the following:

    1. Pull the handbrake. Now you will not roll backwards.
    2. Put the clutch in and select 1st gear.
    3. Let the clutch out until you begin to feel the car pulling forward against the brake.
    4. Release the brake and drive away.

    Simple.

or you do what i do and when you get to the top of the hill put your foot ont he brake. Then when you want to go just move your foot to the accelerator quickly and lift the clutch. you roll back about 1ft at most if you are slow. less normally.

I only use the handbrake if waiting for a long time.
