Your wife owes you a computer.![]()
Seriously, have you tried clearing the CMOS?
Here is the deal. I come out of the bathroom to see my wife on my computer. She was on yahoo games. She see me and gets off, about five mins. later I get on. Computer went into power saving mode. I try to wake it up.... and try... and try... I try the restart button... and try.... and try... Finally I hit the main power switch in the back. I give it about 2 mins, flip the main power switch and hit the power button up front. Fans come on, HD spin up (but that is it), nothing on screenI've removed every card out of the system, no error beeps (Not even that there is no video card). I have the video card in the computer I'm typing this from (It works fine). I removed the memory and replaced it (just in case they got knocked around) still doesn't work. Any Ideas?
Edit: I've tried different monitors too. And by removing everything I only have the CPU, memory, and video card attached to the motherboard.

Yes... Tried like three times. This is the first time I haven't been able to figure out a computer problem. How would I be able to tell if it is the motherboard without buying a new one first.

It was the motherboard. I also had to reinstall XP, but not 98se (That was a issue with the new motherboard) I really don't know why my ABIT VH6 crapped out. Right now I have a Soyo - 7vca-e. Is this a good motherboard? CompUSA only had three to pick from, Asus (MircoATX - too small), MSI (X-Brand priced), and the Soyo (Not as cheap as the MSI, but less than the Asus) Anyways I have 14 days if I need to return this board.

The Soyo board is good.
I wonder if your Asus board was killed by a virus that attacks the CMOS?

Did you remove/reinstalled the RAM sticks?
If it ain't broken, open it to see what makes it "tick".
thats a very good point, would certainly fit the equation. My motherboards BIOS has the option to lock BIOS updates.... can a virus get round that?Originally posted by Aaron Cake
