    internet explorer sucks

    alright, time to vent....

okay, so i got a new computer just before xp came out preloaded on new computers... no big deal, i can live with that... everything was working okay. so then i get one of those little popup messages that there is an update available for IE. i update, and oh guess what, now i cant save .jpg or .gif files under their normal file extentions. they automatically default to .bmp files when you select "save picture as" now i cant save anything to the normal file extention, who the hell came up with this idea. why would i want everything as a bitmap. im sure there are about 309,55,304,570 errors in this program but this is the one that really angers me.

does anyone know if this can be switched on/off like pretty much everything else in windows. it is really ****ing me off. god, i hate bill gates.

    venting over....

edit: oh by the way i have win ME if it matters, with the XP upgrade sitting on the desk, not installed yet. and this problem was happening with IE 5.5 and IE 6.0

    Re: internet explorer sucks

i have noticed that too.... I dont know why it does that and what really causes it.... I have IE6 and I dont have that problem, it just seems to happen to me sometimes at different times...

yeah it is ****.... who in hell uses bmp's nowadays anyway?!

Another gripe I have is that IE is cool to show .bmp's on webpages even tho offically a .BMP IS NOT a web graphic. Where I work we have clients that upload gfx to their websites as .bmp's and they look sweet under their IE.... but when a user uses Opera/NS/etc a nice broken image is shown.... and .BMP as a web graphic... ugh the size!!

I've seen this many times before. It actually renders the graffic correctly, as a gif/jpg/etc. The issue, in my experience, comes from when the image is called via a "nonstandard" html process (not a link from a "nonstandard" html process), which in my experince, has mostly been php. Watch as to what pages cause it. And netscape/opera/etc don't share this same flaw, so view the images via them if you wish to save them in their proper format. and dont you have enough pr0n already?

yeah this happens when your looking up lots of large graphics (perhaps pr0n) anyway i think its ie cache gets full (or the systems or something) it cant display it at its proper format, which is just plain stupid.

Well I use IE 5.5 latest update and I never have problems saving images as the format they are on the web pages. If its a gif file it a gif file when I save it. Is it an OS and IE combined thing or what I run Win2k (all updates) Oh well I must be lucky then.

well, to make a pitiful attempt to defend myself, i really wasnt looking at naughty pix. besides, who really needs to save those... just go on the net... many to choose from. and lets not forget saving pix means leaving evidence around!!

anyway, it all started when i was looking up moving gifs to use for an avatar... tried saving them ... didnt work. then i was a little ticked off, so i went to this background site digitalblasphemy , where i get a bunch of nice wallpapers... tried to save those... didnt work. now im really ****ed off, cuz not even 2 months ago, i could save these large .jpg files as .jpg files, no problems. so i wiped my internet history, tried to save again... no good. rebooted my computer (come on, its the windows solution to every problem!), loaded up wallpapers online... tried to save... no good. i thought i was a prob with IE 5.5, so i upgraded to IE 6.0... same problems. so i tried the same procedure again.... still sucks.

the image is called via a "nonstandard" html process
mp3dub.... what does this mean? im a little slow, alright, really slow, in html. i think most, if not all, of the sites i was trying to DL from were not using php.... but i could be completely wrong.

well, perhaps someone out there knows why this crap a$$ internet program doesnt work. i honestly think it is something to do with winME, cuz i have NT4.0 at work with IE 5.5 and i dont have any of these problems.

Again, I was just speaking from what I've seen. When I said non stanard (again, my own terminology), i was speaking about images links on a generated page (php etc).

so does anyone know how to fix this crap?

on the wallpaper page that i listed above, i can DL one of the images as a .jpg, but the others all DL as .bmp. i dont understand since the entire site is made the same way, all the stuff should be saved the same way. im so confused on everything this week, month, year. not a good start!!!

ya think XP will fix this??? ive been waiting for a reason to install it, this might just be it!

Hmmm.... Not much of a problem on my XP Pro machine. Kinda weird though.... I can save JPG images as JPG, GIF, or BMP, but if it is a GIF image I can only save it as a GIF or BMP. I am using v6.0.2600 of IE (XP default). IMHO I wouldn't touch Netscape! Ewwww

IE6 Was one of the things that kept me from upgrading to XP sooner. When the Beta of IE6 came out I tried it (just like I did with IE4 and 5), and it screwed up my computer so much that I had to format and reinstall Windows. But it seems like they have worked out most of the bugs in XP. I love the fact that you can now get a TRUE full screen browser window!
