    XP/ Linux mandrake dual boot

I just got a new 80gig HD and would like to install winXP (pro) and Linux mandrake 8.1 onto it each into about 20gig partitions with a 40gb partition for all my media. I have never used linux before. Will this type of partitioning work (will the 20gb partition be able to be shared by win and linux?) and how would I go about installing all of this and getting that boot screen to show up that lets you choose OS's. If the answers to my, hopefully not too dumb sounding, questions will take too long to answer here, could someone please point me to a website that deals with this.

    Thank you,
    Matt

Partition, then install WinXP first. Make Give Winxp the highest Partition, Mandrake the second highest, and then your media. You may need to make two boot partitions of like 1gig a piece at the front of the drive. Afterwards, install Mandrake, it will take care of all the startup stuff.

    Number of partitions

I'm not sure if there is a maxinum number of partitons, but linux will require 5 or so for the boot and swap stuff, but it should add these in as it installs, I don't know about XP but win 2000 (which XP is built on) hates Linux and it's a bit messy to get the 2 to coperate with each other. You may have to search the net for some howtos.

I dual boot mandrake 8.1 and win2k on my laptop with out a hitch at all.....
First, I partitioned the drive into two partitons... I installed 2k first. The using mandrakes install utility, I isntalled mandrake.. it gives you the option to set the swap partiton.. its easy.. But linux does not require 5 partitions...
