    Western Union

OK guys, I have a buyer for my Memphis belle amp. He said the only way he will pay me is through Western UNION. I dont know if this is how western uninon works but this is what he said in the email. I dont want this to be a scam, so if any of you can tell me if this sounds fishy or it is correct...

This is what he said in the email:
As for th payment,my only method of payment is via WESTERN UNION PAYMENT,i use this payment because this is one of the most fastest way of sending money in order to avoid scam and fraudulent act, once they approve payment, its sure that the seller or whoever thats involved will definately receive the money order and thats why it takes them hours to approve after payment.Immediatly payment is made an approval letter will be sent to you from western union,i will like to ship the item through my Fedex account. As for your money,as soon as you recieved a confirmation letter from the bank, get intouch with me with the lbs of the item so i will schedule for a pick up and send the shipping document to you,so you will send the tracking number to the bank for verification so that your money will be release asap.

    Does this sound safe?

EDIT: as long as you get the money from western union first then your ok
hes paying you. (if it was the other way around its not safe) just make sure you get the MTCN number (money transfer number)..
go to western union give it to them and then they will give you the money. there are also fees (for him i belive) so make sure he sends enough i think its like 12.00 to make a western union for him

    he's trying to scam you.
He will send you a bogus email saying payment was sent, then get you to ship out. Since he is supplying the fedex account, you have no way to stop the package from being delivered, since it is his account that you shipped on. Fedex is not going to stop a package and return it to you in this case.
    Avoid this guy.
If he is sincere, have him use Bidpay which is run by WU. They are legit, and will email you to log into there site to view any payment confirmations. They work by taking payment from a buyer's CC, then mailing you a Money Order. Once they approve the payment and tell you so, the MO is in the mail and is vaild to cash, even if the buyer uses a stolen CC.
Just a heads up, always CYA.

EDIT: ok, after reading tj's link, it seems Bidpay is no more. Ignore my post, and still avoid the sale.

This is what it said on that webpage:
The way the scam works is that the seller is told the money will only be released by Western Union / Bidpay when the buyer supplies a tracking number, i.e. when he has already shipped the parcel. To get the seller to ship the parcel, the criminal himself poses as Western Union, sending an email from a free webmail service to the victim using an email address which mentions Western Union or BidPay, for example "[email protected]" or "[email protected]", assuring the seller that Western Union has received payment from the buyer and will release it as soon as he submits the tracking number as proof of shipping. A seller believing this message to be sent from Western Union will lose his merchandise and the shipping costs.

I knew that sounded too fishy....

Yeah he is paying shipping, but by having a Fedex account does this matter? Does this mean it isnt a scam?

tell him you want to ship it via ups with a tracking number see what he says or USPS see how he responds but it still does sound a bit fishy
