I have ran as toram on my desktop. It is very fast. I debated between DSL and PuppyLinux for awhile. DSL just seemed to work better and faster. I am still a Linux noob but have downloaded over 20 different live cd's just to check them out. These smaller distros have some great tools built in and I plan on using them on a ew older desktops I have for people who just want email and surfing boxes like my grandma. One of my laptops is dual boot Mandrake and XP but I plan on redoing that setup. Just haven't decided which version of Linux to run on it. Debating between Suse (Got that idea from you )and Ubuntu.

I have built a few of them. They are great to tinker with but I have yet to build one that I used for a long period of time. The glare on the screen stinks (it is tough to view in bright lighting from across the room). All in all though its a great project. I have pictures of some of the ones I have built on my website.

I primarly use laptops that have something wrong with them. I used a Acer (older) 350PC for one of them (p133 16mb ram) with a dead battery). I have also used a newer gateway laptop (1Ghz) that had broken screen hinges (and a dead battery).

If you look around you can get older laptops for little of nothing. It really dosent have to be much to display pictures (or even play mp3's).
