Dunno if you need PCi-X, if you do, then Asus NCCH-DL (I think) is the way to go.

    If not, PC-DL features:

4x DDR non-ecc (cheaper ram) slots
    4 or 5 PCI slots
    1 AGP slot
    onboard audio, USB, firewire, ethernet

...and I am sure I am leaving stuff out but you get the idea. Also the PC-DL is great for overclocking.

If the fifth HDD is identical, just swap PCB's to get to the data. Most likely only the controller is funk'd and the heads/motors/platters are still ok.

People do not realize that often disks are worth nothing compared to the data they're holding, especially in servers.

I'd be happy to buy drives for you and mail them, I am positive it will be signifigantly cheaper.

I like my PC-DL. There are several variations, depending on the core of your processors, (Prestonia/Nocona)

    My setup's cost, in USD:

    Asus PC-DL $130 (used)
2x1.6Ghz LV Prestonia Xeons, overclocked to 3.0 each $100 for the pair
    2x512MB Ram - $90
    4x $160 GB drives - $200 for the set of 4
    OCZ 520w PSU - $100
    + $100 in watercooling

    = $720.

There's a thread here in Off-Topic on my setup.

And no, Powmax did not pay for replacing anything when that PSU failed...they didn't even warranty their own product.

Also, as far as PSU reviews, reviews are a dime a dozen. Be sure to look into how they load test the PSU - a review on the flashy lights dows nothing. I know for a fact that my OCZ PSU has been load tested ok to over 700w, and it's only rated at 520.

Let me know if you need me to buy anything and ship to you, I'd be happy to help out another dual user

Thanks for the info greenman. Have been reading the forum and its definately useful. Im using the nocona XEONs at 3GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2MB cache, 604 pins. The standard intel CPU fans are noisy, so I may well seriously consider water coolling.

I dont overclocked anymore theses days so a little bit outdated. Im really impressed with the pretonia 1.6GHz clocked to 3GHz, how was the setting? FSB? mulitiplier?

But those are second hands, I dont feel comfortable using second hands HDD on servers.

Thanks for the offer in sending me the parts from the US. Ill look into it but in the meantime I run out of cash. Im still waiting for supermicro to reply regarding warranty repair on the board and Im just gonna take it from there, to see if I can carry on with the project or not.

Yes I do that alot of the time at work. I been looking into getting 120GB maxtor diamond plus max model with a good controller. One of the chip got a hole on it.
