Well the whole Japan/US thing was mostly seperate from everyone else. The US wasnt even fighting Germany until they started attacking ports like Boston and shipping on the East Coast. Thats why they have the early warning sonar network along there today. The reason they didn't enter the war earlier was mostly for financial reasons so not all that much has changed. :P
I am from England btw. The reason I know all this stuff is because my Dad used to be in the army and he is always watching war documentaries and its sunk in over the years.
The thing that winds me up most is that most Americans who get into discussions like this seem to assume that America stepped in and saved everyone else (usually with the bomb) but don't realise that America wasn't even a superpower until after the war. It was in fact the failed attacks on Russia that really brought it to an end. Interesting fact: Germany won every battle on the way to Russia but the sheer numbers and weather conditions overwhelmed them in the end.
see - the MOST americans comment is what rubs me the wrong way, maybe it's because I don't see myself as most americans...lol
I've grown up watching probably many of the same documentaries...but I didn't have a family member in the service...
I dono, I don't think it's just americans, I think it's all over the world, but because america is so much in the spot light (especially currently), we ge the bad wrap..
kind of off topic, but helps a bit to prove my point: did you know that there is MORE than enough food to feed every mouth on this planet, but that in places like africa it's the drug lords that prevent the food from getting where it needs to be...

I am not sure that is true, that most Americans think that. HOWEVER, the war with Japan ended after the bombs. Whether it would have ended with out the bombs or not we will never know.Originally Posted by ElKeeed
As for Germany, that ended with the ground war. Was it the Americans, nope, it was everyone. Is it true that the German war ended because of the Americans, again, no one will ever know, HOWEVER, besides Britain, Germany steam rolled over everyone. Could the British have held off the attacks on thier Homeland until they won the war, perhaps, but they asked for help for a reason, the European countires wanted help, asked for help, and initially we refused. Why did they ask if they could do it themselves?? In that sense the Americans may be right. With out the Americans, the EU might be speaking German now. Hell, perhaps everyone would be speaking German, I have no idea. But to think that the Americans weren't instrumental in ending the war with Germany and Japan is delusional. Did we do it ourselve, nope. If we didn't get involved, would things have been different, definitely. Just not sure how.
