Well.. it wasn't just to annoy the neighbours..... yeah, connection teh speakers in series parallel... so, the inpedence of all 4 (I have decided to use 4 for simplicity) is teh same as the impedence as 1. . Am going to use 4ohm speakers, as they have the same output/input specs as the 8ohm, except have lower frequency response, and have been reduced, so are cheaper.. I am really just planning teh amp at teh moment... once I have the circuit design, I will design a PCB layout, and get one, or 2 made for the amp.. then work on getting the components one at a time.. lol

I tell you this, I've done a huge amount of research and designing on this, and you won't end up with anything that sounds good, plus you'll spend more money on the output transistiors than you would on buying a commercial, mass produced amp. Look on mouser or grey electronics for a pair of 100 watt mosfets, then imagine the 10 pair you will need, and all the control circuitry. Also figure out that you probably couldn't even build a decent crossover section or good filtering. If however, you're like me and just wanted to do it to do it yourself, go to www.tripath.com, and start emailing their techs. You can get the chips cheap, they're more efficient than a class D, and you can build some serious power amps. Plus, they have the complete schematics and white papers online. You'll be able to build an exact duplicate of their test board, putting out 1000-2000 watts, all you need to do is make a good input section.

Just my thougts on the idea. I'm also too busy to get all the parts together and spend 100 hours drafting up circuit designs...

Have you tried/heard any of the tripath amps?
the specs look good but how do they sound?

Hmmm....This thread has some familiar traits:

    1. An obsurd topic to begin with
    2. Unreasonable, reasoning for such a question.
    3. Constant disagreement and almost annoying determination.

Kinda reminds me of someone that "used" to be on this board.

Have you thought about 8 amps one for each speaker, probably cheaper, and lighter.

4 ohm speakers will only preform better them 8 ohm speakers if the output of the amp is 4 ohms. If it's an 8 ohm output then 8 ohm speakers will preform better.

Total re-design underway: on the whole progress is very slow as the car is taking up too much time :)

I'm wondering whats so unrealistic about wanting to build a kw amplifier. We've got 10 in our SPL competition rig, and thats nothing compared to whats out there. It's also very possible to build, just time consuming and costly.
Yes I've heard class T Tripath based amplifiers from blaupunkt, alpine, and the tripath evaluation board. They all work great, tons of clean power... no heat output. If I owned a small car, and wanted to hide tons of power amps in little places, I'd definitely run the blaupunkt amps.

there was a project in ELEXTOR electronics magazine about 5-10 years ago that had an amp of that power.. circuit boards and all... i had a copy at home but i think i threw it out with a lot of stuff when i got married....... will look around home but dont hold your breath !!!!!

yoy could try to see if they have a web site...

Try www.diyaudio.com, they do this sort of thing a lot (people on this site build their own video projectors!).

Actually... 8amps=more expensive+heavier.... why??? well.. you would need 8 times the lowerpower circuit... which weighs more than 2.. its like, how much does 2 kilograms weigh... how much does 8 kilograms weigh.. which is lighter.. lol.. well, not quite...
