    6v or 12v batteries

    Hi all

I am looking to put some good deep cell batteries in my boat to run boatputer,a air conditioner with other shore power accessories water pump etc...while motor off for long periods of time.

I was looking at the torjan batteries
The one that interested me was a 6v battery with 885 minutes @25 amp draw.I never seen one with that much reserve.

If I get 2 of these and make it 12v will the 885 minutes @25 amp draw still apply?

Would there be a problem after I hook them up in series to get the 12 volts then hook it up in parallel to the starting battery (12v) on the boat (to charge the 2 6 volt batteries that is now a 12v battery? from the alternator.

    Thanks

    Michael

keep the 6v's in series, and use an isolator. this way you can charge both batteries (consider the two 6v's as one 12 volt) from the boat's alternator. By using the isolator you won't have to keep reconnecting battery cables to charge them. Plus, you won't be stuck with a dead main battery if you drain the aux. setup. As for amp load and capacity, in series the amp and hour rating remain unchanged. If you were to connect the 2 6 volt batteries in parallel, you would have 6 volts, but double the amps.

    Thanks.

Yea I forgot to mention that I was planning on getting the isolator.
