    Installation Laws???

Hi i'm little concerned, im making myself a CARPC using 7" lilliput and ampie computer. as it goes i have been warned by a couple people about the laws on using a VDU about its brightness and what can be veiwed on it while driving. I have been told that it is only allowed to view sat nav information or vehicle telemetry while moving, obviously not dvd or videos etc. Has anyone got the link or the actual UK laws on car installations. Thanx alot.

Not sure if the law has actually come up to date with all this stuff yet. its basically moving pictures that aren't allowed like video. Other stuff is ok and can be found in newer up market cars as standard. About the only other thing is by law it should be impossible to show video unless the car is parked with the handbrake on which is why most screens come with a wire to go on the handbrake switch. I bypassed this but if you played video via the PC it would bypass it anyway which in theory is against the law. Like everything if you crash and they can remotely connect it to you having a display and not paying attention you could get in a heap of trouble.

Yeah, in most places the only thing that it is illegal is to have videos playing in the view of the driver....

GPS, OBD, Music information should be ok to be viewed while driving...

    laws ???

I came across a thread on another site a couple of months ago with the actual law on car installs and displays in the UK, i would like to know these specific laws.

The problem i have is i have fitted a couple of units onto some mates cars and am doin a couple more soon. want to know were i stand legally, what the actual laws binding to the installs so a disclaimer can be made, cant really give a verbal one such as...no porn or Unreal tournament while moving want sommet they can sign so it covers my ***.

PS if anyone else hits that legal page for da UK let me know.
