But its not ok for anyone to download that crappy music for free because then they don't make buckets of money off said crappy music. Which makes it overly apperent that they are not doing it for the love of music or the fans that have stood by them over the years, but instead they are doing it for every last dollar they can take out of the fans pockets. And don't tell me that they need the money either. Do a comparison of thier homes to the places that thier fans live and tell me who needs the money more.
Now in the case of SD, its apperent that this software is not being put out for the love and furtherment of the hobby (think of all the time and effort people like Frodo and Guino and the other frontend designers put into thier software, not to make money even though I'm sure tons of people would have laid down $20-30 for thier software, but just to make it that much better for carPC users), but for the sole reason that its developers figured they could make money off of the hobby. "They can do what they want, blah blah, Capitolism, rabble rabble, deserve the money" you say? Sure, they can be the Metallicas if they want. But its a dick move. Why not sell the software for a reasonable price without the maps? Why not offer a $30 frontend? And if you are going to use the GPS functions, then buy the maps on the side? Why the hell would anyone want to spend more on a BETA frontend then on the whole operating system that thier computer runs on? Is it because you didn't research it enough and figured it was the only option for software to run your carPC? Probably.
    Spent so far: $1,755

    1. I think they can do anything they want.
    2. More power to them for trying to go "commercial".

It's their business venture/attempt. I see nothing wrong with that.
Since they foot the bill for the hosting and so forth, they can put anything they dang well please up on the front page.

Also, unless you're in a non-profit organization, the whole point of owning a business is to make money. Well, I guess that actually goes double for the non-profit . . . they're just not keeping most of it.

I'm reminded of a phone call a charity made to the owner of the company I work for. He had made a contribution to them and they wanted to get a few quotes from him for their newsletter. They asked him what the company's mission statement was, and he replied with a, "Mission statement . . . what do you mean?" She expounded on subject and said, "You know, the goal of your company." He chuckled and said, "To make money". That seemed to end the conversation right then and there.

Don't misunderstand me . . . would I like to see the forums play a more prominent role on the front page? Absolutely! It's important that people, especially those new to the hobby, realize that there is a wide variety of hardware/software that can meet their every need, want and desire.

If people don't like the way MP3Car is run, they're free to choose other sites in which to spend their time and effort, and I realize that many have. The point still remains that, for better or worse, *****ing about it doesn't get us anywhere.

Hmmm, this turned out to be a little more long-winded than I anticipated.

Economics plays a role here. If people weren't willing to pay the price SD is asking, they would soon go out of business or be forced to lower the price to something a bit more palatable. No one is holding a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to buy SD. Don't like the price? Don't buy it. I know I haven't.

No actually, you and everyone else spending your money at the store pay the bill.

The problem with that is, there is no other site that is comparable to this one in terms of information and software available. So you are forced to come back to this site, not that I wanna leave.
and *****ing does get you somewhere! If no one complains about anything then how does anyone know what the community likes or dislikes?

I wish there was an option to not display the streetdeck subareas in the "new posts" section for users. All the ones I see are people who can't figure it out on their own, so they buy $200 and say woohoo it worked. and then they post later, it stopped working. How do I fix it. I get pretty annoyed with Streetdeck now... I used to not care, but seeing as how it has taken over hostily sorta like the borg but resistance is a tad easier, I am pretty ****ed. Maybe a Mozilla plugin that blocks them. Aha!
