Wow, I just got on MSN carpoint and compared the two, the Saturn has more available options, but the Paseo has better gas mileage, higher ratings, more horsepower, and a higher blue book value.
I'm leaning much more towards the paseo now.
Ok, I am trading out a good deal on a car for computer work with a guy that runs a small car lot.
I have a choice, out of about 20 cars, the 2 decent cars are a toyota Paseo and a Saturn SL1.
Both have around 110k miles, both are in the same general condition, both at 94's.
The Paseo is smaller and more compact than the SL1.
The SL1 is a 5 speed, the Paseo is auto.
Both need a really really good detail and wax.
The Saturn has a sunroof.
Both are black with gray interior.
I was covertly told by a worker there that the Paseo was the best on the lot, but I am leaning towards the SL1.
Both are priced at 3400$, but since I'm doing computer work (he wants a web page designed and a digi cam setup, he has a bunch of classic cars around back he wants to put up for sale on the internet) I figure I can get down to atleast 2600$
I have exactly a grand saved up for a downpayment, and he does a pay by the week deal, and since I have no other expenses, thats cool. (Besides Insurance of course)
Opinions please?
Isn't Saturn Toyota's luxury line?

I think paseo is a good car...not sure about the saturn though
My friend owns a 94 SL1, the thing just passed the 134K mark and the head gasket blew out on her. The car was owned by 2 other people before her and there was no real information on the cars history. So take this information as it is, this is only one case of a 94 saturn.
( the car was sold at a locally owned $3000 and under place!)
Can you test drive them? more horse power does not allways mean better prformance. Try and have a go in them and see what you like. Work gave me a Toyota for a few weeks and I hated it, but driving the two of them is your best bet. Also rember that used car salesmen are used car salesmen, they want to sell you a car and not much more, despite how nice they may appear.
And you say people actually pay money for M$ Windows?

Total re-design underway: on the whole progress is very slow as the car is taking up too much time :)
Saturn is a GM brand. And really, Rob gave the best advice, drive them both, see how they feel, and get which ever one feels more "right" checked out by a mechanic you trust. Better to pay $50 and find out that the cars about to die, then 3400 and have it die. And again rob hit the nail on the head, used car salespersons are used car salespersons, their job is to get rid of the cars, regardless, and it usually involves skirting the problems, and talking up the car.

I would go with the Toyota.. they are just made better.\
It may be GM but it's not up to the same caliber as chevy, pontiac, etc.. IMHOSaturn is a GM brand.

Most people who own Toyota's swear by them. I drive a Toyota and no offense to american cars but I will probably always own a Toyota. My dad works for Ford...he owns a F150 lightning, but only to work...He drives a Lexus otherwise. They are just so damn reliable. Thats the reason that they are offered at the same price even though the Saturn has a sunroof. I went used car shopping and camary's were every Dealers "most reliable car" on the lot. Newer Ford Probes, Dodge Shadows, etc. were all the same price as an old camary. Better car. Good luck. Ohh SATURN IS DEFINITELY NOT TOYOTA'S LUXURY LINE. I almost hacked up a lung reading that :-)

Does anybody have a count on how many cars lstrunk has owned in the last year?
Anyways. Test drive them. Then choose. I'm guessing you can drive a stardard. It might save you money in repairs to get the stardard vs the auto in the trasmission department. But do get the car inspected by someone. Unless your state/city has a lemon law, then watch out.
