Sure does seem like that. They get away with it because they don't charge you for what you are proven not guilty to. They just put a bunch of crap processing fees and all that BS onto your bill.
And I believe that my mom's friend was not speeding. She is nearing 50, in a huge van, with 1 toddler, and 2 other kids and is very law abiding. Then when she was found not guilty, she still had a bunch of bills. It is highway robbery... Literally!
And that whole innocent until guilty thing is a bunch of hooey in this country. But that is another rant.![]()

I've recently started acquiring episodes of COPS and I'm a little scared of ever going to the US. They don't muck around over there it seems. If you're a regular Joe over there, do you get unreasonably hassled by the 5-0?

No it is not like COPS!
Only if you have done something really wrong like drugs, do they become brutal with you. I'd say the police in general are almost as nice as they are in Canada. The people you have to watch out for are the TSA people! They are the rent-a-cops for the airport. If you even make a joke, or if you carry more than 3oz of fluids with you through the airport they watch you like white on rice. For my last flight I took 2 cans of orange pop with me. I almost got tackled by the TSA! They said, no fluids over 3oz, and handed me a zip-lock bag. I was like WTF? How am I going to put pop in a zip lock bag?
So I opened the cans and chugged them down right there. 2 of them had surrounded me basically. I was just walking with my parents, and I was holding 1 can, and the other was in my laptop bag. I wasn't even paying attention and then the two jackasses are about a foot from my face, telling me to hold it and asking me questions about my pop. I chugged it down, and they weren't too happy with that but all perfectly legal.
Then when I went through security, I was "randomly selected" for closer security scan with the wand and no shoes. Treated like a criminal because I am trying to enjoy my $2000 plane ticket!
I wasn't a happy camper then, but now I justlaugh at their incompetance.

I had a speeding ticket for going 75 in a 35 zonei think the cop put down 70mph. Anyways, i went to court and told the judge i was in a hury to work and that they were going to fire me if i was late again. The judge dropped $100 bucks off the fine. I only paid $200.00 for going 25 over
My mom was caught speeding from the Helicopter Police. And the pilot didn't show up and it was thrown out of court. I guess from what ive heard is that the cops are being fined if they dont show up now. So it's unlikly that you can get it dismissed for that anymore. Worth a try though![]()

Helicopter police?!
Well I think it is a localized Colorado rip-off because my dad got a speeding ticket in Nebraska about 5 years ago. He was doing 95mph on the interstate at 2am and the road is clear. We were about 6 hours into our 30 hour straight drive. It was a 65mph zone. The cop gave him the option to either pay the fine of less than $100, or get this automotive educational cassette tapes! So he got the tapes, and went on his merry way. So, the cop gave him cassette tapes, and he got off with nothing, not even any points, and I get 5 points and $500 more of a fine for doing nothing!!!!
