I've bought a couple copies by buying laptops and I did buy MS DOS 6 and Windows 3.1 years ago.
Next laptop I buy I'll probably do the refund thing since I don't use Windows anymore, I should have gotten a refund on XP with my current one, there were and still are so many things broken with XP that worked in w2k.

Define reasonably priced. If software normally costs $300, you would want it for $100, if it normally costs $100 you would want it for $50.
At what point would it be "reasonably priced"? For free?

I got a copy of XP Pro from my collage for around $6. I think they bought some copyrights, although if I leave the school or when I graduate I am supposed to give them back I think but I don't see them enforcing that. I also got .net and MS office 2003 for around the same price. Doesn't hurt to do stuff the legal way when it is so cheap.

Oh yeah and my laptop came with a copy of Tablet edition.

It hurts you by locking you into the propritary file format then after you graduate you have to fork over the $300 to be legal in order to open any of your files.

    $50 for a App
    $100 for a OS
    $10 for a movie
    $1 per song

    How is that,

oh, and after they make a set amount of profit, it has to be
    released into public domain,

Reasonabe would be something that does not cost 2-3 hundred when there are millions of computer users out there and most familys have multiple computers nowadays.

I am not saying that Bill Gates does not have the right to make a profit on something that no one thought of at the time when he made the windows platform but what happens when any product is mass produced and millions are sold? The prices keep on falling.

Bill Gates where is the Discount?

Granted there are a lot of theft with it but if it was more reasonable it would not hapen as often.

Even 2-3 hundred would be ok if you could use it on different computers in your "household" Not giving it to friends or family members out of your household,Business etc..

IMHO $100 is too much for an OS.
I think windows needs to be modular, epically on the server side. I do not need or want Outlook Express, Internet Explorer, .net, dcom, etc, etc. Just sell the basic OS for $35 then if someone wants the rest sell an FTP module for $5-10, a web module for $5-10, etc.

Considering it is a whole operating system I'd say it is pretty reasonably priced. Look at what Adobe charges for Photoshop.
