    Anybody use WinMX?

Grokster is such a piece of crap, I decided to try other P2P software. I heard a lot about WinMX, so I downloaded it to give it a try. Only problem though, is that it doesn't return any searches. It just sits there with, "Waiting for results." The bandwidth screen shows a lot of activity, so I'm not sure what's up. Anybody else having problems with it?

[obi-wan] Open your ports, luke! [/obi-wan]

Gutter, you use cable or dsl? you need to have port 6699 open for tcp and 6257 open for udp on the router. it happened to me that way.

I did that and switched to "Primary Connection" in WinMX, but no gravy. Any other ideas?

Are you at a school or something? that is the only other problem that I know of because most schools are now blocking certain ports outside of their network. I also had a problem when I was running grokster in the background and had winmx open.

I use it, and love it.

mine will only work if I tell it I'm behind a firewall and can't accept certain connections.

now that I have ADSL at home (yay!) I have some new faves...

http://blubster.com - The version 2.0 Beta ROCKS! Its soooo much better than when I tried it last year I think all the Audiogalaxy users moved here. Searches are FAST, and downloads are quick/support mulit-clients at once/etc....

http://www.shareaza.com - The best Gnutella client avail at the moment, totally free/no spyware/etc... and has all the best ultra-peer/etc features of the other top clients rolled into once program.

also Kazza Lite is nice, but since mp3s are my main thing, Blubster is the way to go.....
    Project - GAME OVER :(

winmx is great. just make sure you check the "auto complete" button so it will continue to search for more results for your search if the person you're downloading from goes off line.
