Yup, that's going to be the future. Everything is in the house is going to be connected to some kind of server. I've thought of starting my own 'smart home' business after I finish college. Hmm, I wonder if www.mp3home.com is taken .

I'm already planning on doing such I'm moving to something new next week and I'm looking to build a complete media-center that can be controlled anywhere.... That's going to be the starting phase of something that in the end has to be able to control anything in the house.... So everything's gonna be hooked up to the computer.....

Yup, I'm sure you and I have similar idea's one where all this can go. The only smart home company I could find was located in the UK and they looked more focused on saving energy and money than actually controlling the house via a computer.

Maybe we can bounce idea's off each other sometime on AIM or something.

I only got MSN, I'm sorry.... But feel free to contact me anytime on this.

edit: saving energy and money COULD go hand in hand with controlling the house all the way.... IF you plan it right.... And that's the beauty of it and what I hope to achieve some day! I do have lots of reading to do though. I'm not much of a programmer or anything....

Also microsoft has a pretty functional smart house. Pretty cool stuff.

As for the kitchen, they have a projector in the ceiling that displays the recipies on the counter. Only displays recipies that you can make with ingredients you have in the fridge because it takes inventory and automatically reorders the food. When you start a recipie, it turns the oven on to the right temperature by itself. All sorts of details that make this thing awesome!

This is actually part of the field I want to go into myself.

I saw that video from CES, but I was not impressed at all. This is supposed to be the top computer company in the world talking about the home of the future and they are showing things that any developer could put together. Conceptually it wasn't even a new idea, their whole demo revolved around projecting applications onto walls and using voice instructions to control them. I guess I just excepted to see more from MS...
