On a side note I think home automation is going to be one of the top industries in the future ~ it is a great market to get into if you are any type of entrepreneur imo.

I guess I just excepted to see more from MS...
Actually most of it was developed by 1998. That is the only model they are showing. You know microsoft. They don't show the newest things until they want to! So that stuff was all impressive 9 years ago. I can only imagine what they have hidden.

I agree with you, I am sure they are smart enough not to lift up the skirt more then they have to, but I wanted something to make me say "Wow!". I know this is a little off topic but something I was looking into is microsoft's robotics studio:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/robotics/

From what I was reading it should be pretty easy to write applications to control the robots built by lego:

    http://mindstorms.lego.com/

I'm thinking of building one to hook into digimoto to make the first robotic mechanic. Ahhh, lots of work for a laugh though. Interesting stuff.

My grandparents are building a new home and I'm install a 10" lilliput touch screen in the wall for them to use as a HTPC. That is really an all in one solution. Probably be cheaper/better to just build the computer yourself. It would be a lot easier than trying to get one to work well in a car environment.

Throw in a relay board connected to some beefier relays and you can control everything you want from your kitchen. Turn your lights on and off at the touch of a button. Also, becuase it's directly controled by your pc, you caould even set up timers and what not, so that lights come on at certain times as triggered by your computer.

The fact that your planning to have you kitchewn pc on your home, network means you can do all this from any computer in the house too!

I was thinking of something like this the other week too. Once I get my own house, I'll be doing this for sure. Thsi will be a goo thread for future reference
I installed my carpc into my pet Kangaroo, mate.

You don't have to be home even..... If your car-pc has wifi (and you're at an accesspoint), you -for instance- can turn on the chauffage by accessing the controlling pc an hour before you get home, so it's nice and warm when you step through the door

I assume you have a remote garage-door opener, don't you? well this is a little more advanced, but it actually is the same, only with more options
