Yes it is. But it is also stated that the shipping for item cannot be exorbitent and the handling may not be more than the selling price of the unit and shipping costs have to be close to what you actually pay.

So that means every $0.01 auction with $39.99 shipping is in violation as well. But there are so many auctions on eBay, they don't care. As long as they get their money, they are happy!

what I'm getting at is if they ask for it, I wouldn't do business with them in the first place. Chances are, they will screw you over if they are doing it in the first place.

I don't mind if they do it as long as they state it before hand and not on the auction close.

The fees are usually like $2 or so, so it doesn't bother me. I usually go cheapest shipping, no insurance, and will happily pay the $2 for an auction that closes like $10-$20 less than the other ones.

I am a cheap bastard! If it comes out cheaper in the end, sounds good to me!

how do you find working in a place like that to be?

IMO it seems like the biggest rip off since paying for bread, butter and water in EU restaurants...

You sell something for someone, and they get like how much % of the actual ending bid back? Just to cover your fees, shipping, labor etc?

I mean, its a great "scam" in that it makes money on those who cant be bothered with eBay crap, but I fail to see any benefit monetarily except for iSoldIt...

    enlighten me.

It is for those who are afraid of the internet. Usually old people who have been scared by the media into thniking everyone is out to get their creditcards and once they get a shipping address will kill them!

So they just dump their crap off, and expect to get garage sale returns. Easy for them, and profitable for the company.

So it IS a rip off and I should do this, start my own...

Someone in town already does but he is a jerk (both email and telephone) and is always advertising everywhere, and I am pretty positive his fees are really high. though I never ran into anyone who actually uses it.

Id love to have someone give me their stuff, let me sell it how I wish on ebay (cuz im pretty good at getting max $, even for total utter crap and I dont mean broken, I mean stupid stuff) and then I get to keep a %.

Im just not too into the whole process of taking in and paying out...

but it seems like a lucrative business to be in where its ALL PROFIT!

Wont work too well for you. Those who are afraid of the internet, want a storefront. They don't want some guy running a business out of his home. They want that false security of a brick and mortar store. That is why a company like that has a storefront.

So you need to get a storefront. And old people need a name behind it. Those ebay stores have big advertising and that is where they go. They aren't going to go Joe's eBay Place because they don't trust you. That is why Radioshack still has business. Who the hell buys stuff at radioshack? I'll tell you. Old people who are afraid of the internet (I used to work there)

PayPal fees have nothing to do with the person doing the paying nor the method of payment, it is entirely to do with the type of account the recipient chooses to have - so why should the purchaser be penalized for it?

If you really feel you must stick it to the buyer at least add it in to the price up front rather than the all to common "you must pay extra because I choose to have a premier PayPal account" nonsense.
It's not just about the account they chose to pick - it's about the method you're choosing to pay with (credit card). A seller can only accept credit card payments through PayPal if they upgrade to a premier account (or business account), which then charges them fees.

I, for example, have a personal account which has no fees and a premier account which has fees. You want to pay with cash through paypal? No fees. You want to pay with a credit card? Fees.

You say " it is entirely to do with the type of account the recipient chooses to have - so why should the purchaser be penalized for it?" No, it's entirely to do with the type of payment YOU choose to make, so why should the seller have to pay extra because you don't have the cash to pay for it and want to charge it?

That being said, I can understand your frustration if the seller didn't offer two options (i.e. only accepted paypal, and only had a premier account so was charging you a fee to buy the item.
