I've seen a show (forgot which one) where they did something similar, but parked the car in a shopping mall.
Here is an encouraging article about police setting up cars as "traps" to catch would be car thieves.

they did something like this here in new zealand about 4 years ago for a tv show. sitting ducks really.
Nothing new, they have been doing it for years. Actually I think they don't do it often enough. If they did it enough car thieves would certainly start to think twice.
But then again quite often even when they are caught they don't end up in jail, so it probably wouldn't make any difference![]()
I remember a TV program where the theives get slapped on the bum and get named and shamed on the national TV. Its more on an entertainment show.
Hmm not even named and shamed cause most of them are underage, so they have to block off the guys face and names are never mentioned
Me and a mate actually saw 2 guys in action breaking into a brand new merc, it was in a sainsburys carpark. Guys smashed the glass, took a few things, a mobile/PDA I think. If we caught them and beat the **** out of them, then we probably end up in prison, amazing how law protects the criminals.
How come they can't take them to jail? I see a similar situation on cops all the time. They plant a bike (not motorcycle) somewhere and there's always some guy that picks it up and then the cops grab, handcuff, and take him to jail. Why can't they do something the same for a car?
I'm thinking about building a sort of taser device under the door handle. Just charge a capacitor up and create a huge potential diff. across it the door handle, ZAP lol. That might just **** them off even more though...And it could be illegal.
yah think?
