    Open Mobile skinning for dummies

    so, i would like to help as much as possible with OM, but have zero coding experience (it seems like most of the icons are rendered?).

    all of the programs i have skinned/modified in the past use 'skin.txt' and small icon files, and i just modify those to get the effect i want.

    as i was saying in the 0.6 software download thread, OM is different and i like to think of it as a challange to figure it out, and try to help make some screens.

    what do i need to know, any special software/links i should look at?

    i made a quick skin(just changed the background) how do i change what skin OM uses?

    justchat was saying that the media portion could use some work-- how do i view it, and what needs to be added/made?

    but like ws6vert said in the other thread...skinning is the one area we let fall behind with all of the new development. Theres a lot planned to make it quite a bit easier but we haven't had time to work through it yet. If it comes down to it, you can mock things up in gimp or photoshop, break it up into individual images, and I can turn it into a plugin for you.

    As far as the media skin....any chance you have a google wave account?

    no, but i don't mind setting one up if you have a extra invite .

    Would a sticky be possible with maybe the most current "uncompiled" skin stuck in it? Might help a skinning effort and on the flip side we can more easily see the commands and controls we would need to impliment?

    xml skin files, i assumed the skin editor saved in xml.. and "compiled" them.
    am i mistaken?

    Well it does...but a lot of the default skins were done in c# because it was faster/easier then the old fashioned way. I can post a few though if it helps. Just a word of warning that the actual logic behind all the controls (a technology being called JustCode) isn't implemented in the current skin designer.
