Here is a new skin I have been working on. Inspired by the Ford Sync with a few tweeks. Let me know what everyone thinks and if there are any improvements that should be applied.
Thanks,

I like what I see. But more people may respond once you add a bit more to the skin. Right now I am assuming the four corner colors will be the touch zones similar to the default skin. Perhaps the two grey spots will drop down (or lift up) some option panels like media.
Keep going and post progress pics.
Cheers,
John
I am a huge fan of the Ford Sync interface and believe a skin based on it would be very intuitive. Would like to see more though...6 colored boxes doesn't really make a skin just yet. Keep up the good work though
Looks clean and simple, just the way it should.
Create some more artwork that describes where you're going, then we can help out to make it "alive"...
Thanks for the replies.
I have been working on the bitmaps to go with the theme, here are a few screen shots:
These first set of bitmaps are the selected screen backgrounds. The selected button appears flat and gradients into the workable area.

This screen would be the default screen to show all of the minimal information.

This screen is a brainstorm of the Music selected screen with a focus on Radio FM. In this screen, my goal is to make the wheels spin for additional selections and because it would be a very cool effect. So, gestures would have to be disabled on these areas. :thumb:

I am trying to improve on the Ford Sync concept where you will always see the minimal amount of information. I have never seen a system with spinning wheels integrated into the screens. I thought it would be an interesting idea because it would allow expansion and not have to sacrifice font size or screen space.
Anyway, please let me know where I can improve on these ideas or integrate any new ideas.

A "spinning wheel" shouldn't be to hard to create, the effect is basically a custom list that can be dragged/thrown up/down.
Your layout looks good, personally i think I'd move the color indicator that indicates which screen you are at to both sides (top and bottom, not just top) to give off the effect of extending out from the button itself. Another approach would be to have the colored button area "glow" to show which screen you are on instead of the color bar.
I also agree that you should consider your font size vs amount of information.
I was just thinking about expansion into more screens that would be beyond this theme's capability. The Ford Sync-like theme is great if you want to stay specific to 4 major screens; Music, Navigation, Phone, and OBD2. But if you want to add screens like; External Apps, Weather, E-mail, etc then this theme just wouldn't cut it.
I would like to create a skin that would be very modular to where the individual could add and remove plug-ins in the theme and still have the basic information of those plug-ins on the same screen. Similar to the Default theme, all of the plug-ins are on the same screen but add some basic information. With this theme, incorporate the 'spinning' concept into these "floating" plug-in cells so that one could gesture up or down to see more plug-ins added to the theme. And then select the "floating" plug-in and more detailed information would be displayed on the screen with the "floating" plug-ins. Give me a little time and I will attach some ideas for this theme.

Here is what I am thinking, this will take a little from the Default skin and the Highway skin with a couple extra things.
The first image shows 4 plug-ins with the active screen highlighted.

or
The second image shows 3 full plug-ins and 2 half plug-ins with the text of the active screen highlighted.

The exciting part would be to use up and down gestures to cycle through plug-ins the individual setup through the Settings screen.
One of the goals is to keep simplicity, keep it clean, and make it look like you never leave the screen. Only the information on the right side would change based on the plug-in selected.
What do you guys think??? I am still working on the rest of the screens layout but would definitely like comments and suggestions!

I like the concept. The colors aren't my style, but that's another story. This could let you have more than 8 plugins available on your "menu". Watch the size of those "buttons" or your right-side will become cramped.
Cheers,
John
