woah, web address changed from http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/openmobile/ to http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/open-mobile/

So how are we officially spelling it? OpenMobile or Open Mobile?

I've been watching this thread for a while and I must say that this seems pretty impressive so far.

I really liked the compiler thing, will be looking forward for this!

But I'm curious about how the skin scripting will be done. I know that if it's compiled into an dll C# it self can be used but what if it's runned from a text file? Will it implent a C# script like Script.Net or something similar or will an OpenMobile language be developed?

Will it support/ be fast enough so that something like animations can be programmed directly from the skin itself?

What about external input units (other than mouse and keyboard)?
Will it support input via something like this haptic encoder (New Product - Force Feedback (Haptic) Encoder If so I can be helpfull in making the interface to this specific unit as I already have it running in VB.

    Cheers

Great set of questions. Theres some good information on the wiki about how skinning is done so hopefully that can fill in whatever I forget. Basically, skinning requires a dll file. The dll can be as simple as a skin loading dll, or it can be a low level plugin which provides hardware support (see high and low level plugins in the wiki). Text based command systems are very slow, difficult to maintain and really limit features. OpenMobile is entirely event driven which also would make it incompatible with text commands in skin files. Thats where the compiled plugins come in. Compiled plugins can load text based skin files or create them on their own, plus the skin designer has a nice menu driven system for adding functionality. I cant guarantee you can do as much as you could with c# but well try to get as much as we can.

These compiled plugins will have full support for transitions, functions and animations - in a point and click manor.

As far as support for other hardware thats where low level plugins come in (again-wiki)...you can create an IOther type plugin which bridges the gap between open mobile and the haptic encoder. It can either be used to turn motions into commands or you can use the raise key press function to simulate keypresses.

Justchat_1 how do I change the background image in the skin designer? After I know how to do that, I can send you an undated skin file for a better overall example.

talked to Heather, and she changed the link back to this forum back to what it always has been, as OpenMobile as one word, no need to change your sig line Justchat_1, unless you like I, already did.
