I am glad for the lack of xaml...
It's WAY to heavy, and an average CarPC might have troubles being fast enough to cope. Especially if there's lots of transparencies.

xaml is yet another "Microsoft trying to reinvent the wheel" thingy. Works great on newer, and quicker computers. Something that suits MS quite nicely. Think Weird-Al got the best point in his "Windows 95" song.

On the other hand, when programing in C#, xaml is an easier way to go for the programmer. (On the other hand, when programing in C#, xaml is an easier way to go for the programmer. (And that's why there's so many crappy software out there... The programmer have choosen the easiest way out).

@DANNYDOTNET I dont know if you missed the point...silverlight will not be used.
If you read back through the original thread, silverlight was brought up and shot down.
I understand this is a 'want list' and you have expressed your desire for xaml and silverlight, it has been stated that silverlight and xaml will not be used in open mobile. So that being said, this thread is not the place for random fragments of code. If you would like to create your own skin, with said clock, etc then use the skin designer. And it will have to be in openMobile native code.

    Suggestion / Request

    Hi,
I have just got me first install done in my p38 rangie, and have been considering a front end for it.

I would like to see this project move forward with th excellent ideas already.

    Well here are my 2bobs worth;
    - rather than going down the gesture road, would an input method like 'swype' or 'slideit' be a silly idea??
    - maybe only a skinning thing, but say you have set a button on a certain side handy to the drivers' hand, could you have a setting to reverse them for those that drive on the right side!

Currently do not have a front end running, going to install win7 embedded and then Open Mobile, lookng forward to it.

    Thanks,
    Tyrone

Could you explain a bit further? What do you mean with 'swype' and 'slideit'?

Yes this would be a skin function, rather than a frontend function. But certainly not a problem to implement in a skin.
    Failure is not an option...

These are text input methods, rather than typing by tapping on an OSK you slide across the leters, very effective and fast.

    Swype

    SlideIT

My colleague has put it on his touch screen phone and works great.

My thought was as a text input method only not replacing features already there.

That certainly would be pretty cool. Unfortunately, those products require licensing agreements for their proprietary databases. Without those databases and the advanced pattern recognition engines they developed we wouldn't be able to bring this technology to openMobile. However, if they were interested we would be happy to work with them to make it possible, although I doubt they would offer it for free.

I want to 'embed' iGuidance so that iG gets 99% of the screen when it's in the foreground, and OpenMobile just puts a small 'back' button in one corner of the screen. Pressing that button brings OM to the front.

One of the things that bugs me about most front ends I've seen is that they eat a lot of screen real estate when the GPS app is being used. I don't want the front-end's banners going across the top and bottom though, the 7" screen is cramped enough running GPS in the first place.

Can OM support this kind of thing?

    Thanks!
