    GMPC has a pretty extensive POI db that comes with it. From my experience, it can find the Chilis nearest your location, and gives you the option to add as your destination or add as a via point to your current route. For searches such as that, I think it has no problem.

    On the other hand, say you were looking to navigate to the Ford Environmental Science building here at Georgia Tech. You would not be able to input "Ford Environmantal Science" and expect GMPC to know what you mean, but google the keywords "Ford Environmental Science Georgia Tech" will put you right where you need to be. I can certainly see how a plugin taylored to interface with google maps to receive search results based on these circumstances and then forward the selected result to the navigation program would be very beneficial.

    One more note: At the moment, GMPC does not interface with google's "send to garmin device" feature. It throws an error when attempting to transfer to the GMPC software.

    I see that Garmin mobile XT has the Google local search built into it already.

    I don't forsee the Google Local search coming directly to GMPC, for the reason that it is laptop/ PC software rather than smart phone software. On the other hand, Making a plugin for the frontend allows it serve the same functionality to multiple navigation programs if those programs have an SDK that allows them to be integrated into the framework. So basically having this as a plugin separate from GMPC could be a good thing overall.

    The idea of zones probably wont be implemented as much as an infinite number of displays. Each display is unique from the rest but since they are all tied together they share alot. A backseat user could start a movie and then a passenger that enjoys it could watch the same movie starting from the beginning...or jump to the position they're at.     So i was looking at suggesting this very thing, and expanding on it a bit. Luckily you already had it in mind! BUT what about input zones as well as output zones. Obviously on a touchscreen this would need to be implimented, but what if you've got a bin of xbox controllers in the back of your party wagon and a bunch of "steal me first cause im flashey" non touchscreen monitors in the headrests.

    controller A connects to monitor 1. you can label the controllers.. OR write a plugin that grabs the controller id from the wireless controller dongle and reads info from a FB or whatever about the pressure switch pressed on seat 1.a and the controller is matched up with monitor A.

    I'd also LOVE to have the ability to have the fe recognise when a game is being played in 2 player and mirror the monitors.. but THAT i know is a pipe dream involving a custom mame made just for the bugger.

    The idea your referring to was part of the input router framework added in 0.6. We haven't written any plugins to take advantage of it yet but its fully supported. You can use any kind of custom hardware, grab a plugin for it, and from within openMobile select what each controller controls, or allow it to be screen neutral.

    Plugins for game controllers (non-xbox) and the powermate are in the works (sorry no eta). Plugins for xbox and wii controllers are planned but currently no developers have begun work on them.

    This next release is really a multi-media release with most of the dev work going into radios (hardware and internet), video playback and increased playlist support.

    Yea that was the plan....but we decided to push it back a bit to add support for hd radio, dab and another surprise plugin. Shouldn't take too much longer.

    When you release the GPS support with GMPC do you have a working on screen keyboard yet?

    I can confirm that we have gesture support implemented for GMPC (shown here), which leads me to believe that we also will have OSK working as well, but JC will have to confirm that.

    Has anyone been working on a new skin for OpenMobile?

    I know there was mention of doing something similar to elite for RideRunner.
