CF has already threatened legal action against someone who tried to make money with a CF-lookalike skin, but I don't think they have an issue with it as long as you in no way make any sort of money off of it, since they didn't threaten action until the skin showed up at a show, with someone trying to sell it.

HiJackZX1: You're saying it's ok for a developer to port a third party skin across frontends, but if that skin was made by another developer(of a frontend), it's not ok? That's just silly. one of the things I did for RevFE was to make it load RR skins. Primarily because I am not a graphic artist, I am a programmer. I think that duplicating or using skins from another frontend is alright as long as the original skin creators, or in this case the frontend creators are ok with it. Why should we stop everyone from freely benefiting from one persons good idea, just because they work on a frontend? I don't think third party vs self-made is the issue here.

I know your a die hard cf fan...the dead horse was because i've said thats exactly what I don't want to do (in the last couple posts again and again) and wouldn't even support in a third party skin.

malcom2073: In this case your talking about a User Interface thats been copyrighted which is why I think things are differently. It was just an idea out loud - chances of me having time to draft something up are slim at best.

I agree, as long as its for private use, it may be OK. I dont like it though. That main skin is literally like the personality of the front end.

No, its OK to port the skin if they have permission to do so. Like mentioned above, if you make a skin similar to a another front end, its like copying the personality. Thats like me saying, lets make CF look like $h!+ deck, oops I mean street deck. Now I think there are exceptions like when people create a variation of the skin to make it easier to use, but within the same Front End.

Or when people prove that a front end is just bloated slow and buggy by running their "fancy" skin only with better graphics on a different platform and it being lightning fast?
