Streetdeck uses it's own nav engine with Navteq maps. It works, it has some little annoyances. I don't think you would find an OM add-in using it.
I waiting for a more useable OpenMobile so I can order up Garmin PC Mobile and try it all out. I have not heard that it uses satellite imagery though.
PS: I'm not an OM developer, just guessing.
Actually it uses the DeCarta navigation engine (http://www.decarta.com/) they just like taking credit for everything. Visually it is excellent, but 90% of the things its capable of were never implemented.

I think it has a lot of potential and if it could be done with a group buy that would be awesome.

I don't remember which company gave which quote...I think it was 5K. And thats only an sdk, actually putting together a fully integrated design takes hundreds of hours of work.
