We have a modular navigation system which allows for different navigation engines to be used.

For example, see here for a demo of the upcoming GMPC plugin:
    Integration Re-Defined

Or screenshots of the current and planned skin design at the bottom of this post:

Other navigation engines are planned in the near future

are you guys going to have an engine for navigation anytime soon or just use other software as plugins? when does the 0.7 come out. the 0.6 only plays a few artist and songs from my music folder.

Well counting the $20 donation we received so far....were only $9880 short of the initial licensing fee for the nav engine we would like to have...not to mention the per user fees.

We are working on some creative licensing long term but the project needs to grow a little bit so we have the leverage. I can say though that the garmin plugin is not just the "embedding" done by typical applications but a full integration of garmins navigation engine.

0.7 should be out any day now...its finished, were just waiting for all of the plugins to finish being tested and tweaked.

As mentioned above, OpenMobile is currently using the Garmin Mobile PC sofware for its navigation engine. This is a completely new form of integration of Garmin Mobile PC, that does not merely embed the program but actually exposes portions of the actual GMPC core to the OpenMobile framework. This is the first time this has been accomplished that I know of.

As for your speech and maybe future questions, there are many other posts in the OM forum, including this one: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/open...-complete.html
It details whats new for OpenMobile 0.7, and is going to be a real treat!! As Justchat said, it will be released very soon.

Google's navigation API explicitly bars use in a desktop environment. I have the GMPC software, as do many others on this forum. Believe me, its the only stand alone navigation software out their that allows for this level of integration. Also you have the security of knowing that you are invested in a company that makes its living off of navigational hardware and software. If you are looking for a recommendation, I support it fully, but thats just my opinion based on my year and a half use of the software.
If you are skeptical about the OM software, wait for 0.7 to be released, and get the opinions of the users, and then make up your mind. OM's framework supports modular plugins so the GMPC navigation plugin can be added or removed from any installation at any time.

Yes, you can buy the software only version from the Garmin website. Understanding that the software only version can only be licensed for use on one computer. It would have to be de-registered if it were to be installed on another computer. The version that comes with the gps can be installed on multiple computers, but will only work with the supplied gps.
