with 0.7 well support the mp3car hd radio, viseton/directed hd radios with mitches cable, xm radio and dab. More hardware plugins for 0.7 will probably be released shortly after as the need arises.
which is better the mp3car hd radio or viseton/directed hd radios?
its a price tradeoff....mp3cars radio has audio over usb so you get 1 less wire and an all digital audio path. The visteon/directed units are 1/4 of the price but have an analog audio out.
I don't get the tradeoff of USB sound. I don't know about you guys, but my USB lines have enough going on as it is... sound over USB just seems inappropriate? I'm one of those guys who supports the Visteon units. They work awesome and Mitch put a lot of development into his cables and software. At a cheaper price, seems more logical to me.
Then again, I've never tried the BoomzBox interface before. I wouldn't either.
he best I think is viseton/directed hd radios
since I have a new intel board, i dont have a serial port on the rear only10 usb esata, firwire, hdmi and dvi.
Visteons are starting to go up in price as they get more and more rare (they stopped making them a while back). That, plus all the normal noise issues with using a line-in and driver issues with cheaper usb sound cards... yada yada.
Yeah you could probably do it cheaper, just like you can build a carpc for $50, or for $300. It's a matter of quality, and ease of use. I'm a huge fan of the boomzbox, having used both methods (Visteon + USB and boomzbox) I can tell you that the boomzbox is well worth the investment.
