    openMobile 0.8 Developer Preview

In response to high user demand for a 0.8 release and to give our users a more tangible idea of whats been happening on the development side we have decided to release a developer preview. This is by no means a fully tested or release quality build, it is just a trunk build that was tested by our development team to ensure it was stable before being pushed out the door. We have included a small subset of the common plugins, your mileage may vary adding 0.7 plugins which were not designed for this platform.

    Whats New:
    • Fully Hardware Accelerated Graphics
    • A brand new graphics engine (codenamed: green nitrous)
    • Adaptive Framerate Technology (unique to openMobile) keeps CPU usage nice and low
    • New Sensors Framework
    • Haptic Feedback Support
    • New plugin security and secure storage frameworks
    • New cross-platform font system
    • Dozens of optimizations

The dev team is transitioning to mostly skin and plugin design now so look forward to some great skins with the official 0.8 release.
NOTE: After downloading, run the Run Me First executable before running OM. If you encounter problems and have an existing installation you may need to clear OMs data directory before use.

Give this a shot too...should work with 0.8 and higher. Just delete the old OMMediaDB and drop in OMFolderDB.

If you don't know code, let me tell you (as I do know code) that OpenMobile is probably the most sophisticated stuff ever conceived for this purpose. OM will likely be the standard.

As a consultant, I get paid to rip code apart for a living. I have gone over OM in detail and I can find very little wrong in it using even the most critical eye and automated scanners.

OM team, what you are doing is going to change things. Thank you.

Cohesive Technology is in development to build a platform that takes the car PC and elevates it to a must have life-saving appliance. We are confidently using the OM framework.

    Thanks I will try today.

    Where is the OMMediaDB located?

I couldn't wait last-night to try 0.8 so I installed it and I loved it I tested it on my Atom based laptop that's not nearly as fast as my actual car PC.

I was so fast the graphics felt really tight even with the skin only being a black background I could tell.

I'm running it work right now. No show stoppers yet. Pretty much can only do Music as Pandora doesn't seem to be able to load its Settings page.

Is there anything specific you are looking for testing on?

Its a preview, so testing isn't the reason for this, and if you think hardware acceleration isn't a show stopper... then...

Must depend on the skin/hardware, but honestly, I don't see a huge difference in UI performance between the previously released 0.7 on my Atom330. The lack of HDRadio and Pandora means I obviously can't keep it running in my truck anyways, but I don't have and problems with the hardware accelleration.
