    I agree with guv here.

Tried OM a while ago and couldnt work out why they did the skin that way. They really need to work on a good UI/skin. Its pointless having the cutting edge software when majority of users are after that wow factor and easy to use. I know its just a skin, but to promo OM they really need a nice, smooth, easy to use skin.

This is the reason why CF appeal to many, the layout is easy to understand.

I could be all wrong here but definately I couldnt get on with OM when I first tried it. In fact I gave up after a few mins of playing with it and havent checked it again. Will try again when they release 1.0 or something, till then its not for me.

I'm just being honest- I didn't get on with it at all, it was a massive step backwards IMO and hope that it gets sorted soon as I think OM could be a good bit of software. But at the moment it doesn't make mark it needs to.
I think it is still important to note that this is version 0.8. Instead of working on super fancy graphics, the OM dev team has concentrated solely on getting the framework and functionality of the software in place. If looks are all that matter to you, then yeh hold off for 1.0.

Take a close look at centrafuse, IMO they have worked hard on their UI. I haven't got v3 but I'm sure it's just as appealing as the version I'm running. If you can match that, and make it even easier to skin then you'll be on a winning combo. At the moment OM looks like a very badly designed flash app.
Using OpenGL has nothing to do with how easily skinnable OM is. And if you dont see the advantage of OpenGL hardware rendering, then I dont know what to tell you. Also it would be important to know that not a single person on the OM dev team is a graphic designer. Unlike Centrafuse, we can't pay graphic designers to come up with a new look and call it Centrafuse 3.0. And lastly... see if this looks better: Teaser x 3

That does look better, but honestly not near the level I would have expected. Since it's opensource, could you not do a small 'how to' on developing your own skins? I'm certain you will get input which could be integrated freely?

I thought OpenGL was rendering the graphics? If not, when does it get used?

Yes OpenGL renders our graphics and animations, but you do not need to know the underlying graphics framework to make a skin for OM, so using OpenGL does not make it difficult. Again, we are on version 0.8. More emphasis has been put on features rather than looks and skinning capability. I assure you we will have proper documentation on the skinning process once all of that has been finalized. You will certainly see more improvement in the skinning area as we get closer and closer to our official 1.0 release.

Not much is changing with the CarPC apart from the replacement front panel as the last one got scratched and the installation of a new SSD for OS & Software in conjunction with the original 500GB media drive. Hopefully this will make cold boot and hibernate times reduce dramatically.

I originally had 2x 500GB 7200RPM drives one for OS & Software etc the other for Media, they were half price so jumpped at them! But there's something wrong with the OS drive .

Since I've sent it off for replacement I've been using an old 160GB 5400 drive but the difference in the lower rpm is quite a surprise tbh, I knew it would be a tad slower but this feels a lot slower! With the SSD booting Windows 7 in 30 secs where as a 7200 drive in comparison does it in about 1min 10secs I have high hopes! And the Windows 7 hybrid sleep will be a great advantage.

At the moment I'm trying to set up VB on the Zotac as suggested by a few members I could remove the 2 pico systems I've got under the rear passenger seat plugged in to the headrest touchscreens and run all 3 screens off of 1 PC... Also looking at adding an additional screen for the front passenger, although I'm tempted to fit a tablet or UMPC in to the Glovebox since the power/reset buttons and DVD writer are being relocated now.
Sounds like my install. I actually had all the interior out, including the headliner. Once I got my 19 inch installed I had to put the headliner back in because the rain would drive me insane without it. Still have most of it out because I have to redo all the wiring and find a good fabricator.

Why such a huge drive for OS? You will never ever have that much software to need so much space. Originally my OS drive was a 40GB, but now I want to try 2 SSD 30 GB drives in Raid 0 (Zotacs are awesome at Raid 0) so I can make boots super fast. So that would give me 60 GB. If they made lower then 30GB, like 20GB, I would go for those.

Yup, getting it all on one PC is a much better idea. There is one limitation that drives me crazy, but the Pros out way the one Con. The Con is because you are sharing one PC, you cant use multiple keyboards. So say you connect 3 keyboards, there is no way to assign them to a screen. This is a limitation of Windows. That means they are stuck having to use the onscreen keyboard.

I told you it was ugly. Good news is, if you browse the skins area of OM, you see they are working on a few. I am in love with this one: Teaser x 3 It has a look and feel like CF, but actually looks slightly better. Its not so blocky like CF. I really wish they would design a skin based on the Ford EDGE infotainment system. That skin Ford uses is so hot!

I agree.... CF has worked very very hard on the GUI. Coupled with the fact that they made setting it up so easy is a huge deal breaker. This is what OM has to focus on right now because people that are looking for a FE will not see the so called advanced architecture OM has.

Nope..its actually just a limitation of the front end-windows supports multiple keyboards and there are even a few popular games that use it for one keyboard per player...

You can have multiple keyboards and mice, if you use VirtualBox it allows you to assign the USB devices to the 'seat'. I haven't tried this as I'm just using the touchscreens in the back, at the moment I'm limiting them to basic functions such as media and basic browsing.

I got the 500GB drives half price if I bought 2 (so kinda like buy one get one free). I'm now going to be installing a 64GB SSD for OS and apps and media will be on the working 500GB already in there.

I've head the headliner down too but only to insulate- I've got an electric sunroof so I haven't got any room for anything else up there unless I reshape the headliner itself! Stripping and refitting interiors is a bit of a bloody headache tbh, I find it easier to pull out an engine, rebuild and refit! lol

I would love it if you could just have a fireworks template, modify the skin, slice it up and drop it in to a folder somewhere. Few applications use this technique and it works very well imo. Or even have it's own skin creator!

Yes I did ...if you look back you'll see I even mentioned the MAME project thats been doing it since before XP.

I won't even respond to the idea of using virtual machines for each zone...im guessing that was a joke.
