What hardware are you using for OM?

I am in the planning stages of future upgrade of CarPC hardware. So, I am just curious to find out what others are using, or planning to use. I have tried to follow some posters links and decided it might be easier to ask.

    My signature shows my hardware.

    Cheers.

everytime they advertise a new version, it gets thrown on my laptop first-- a hp g60 (pentium dual core t4300, 3gb ram, 64bit win7)

my car pc has very similar specs though-- zotac 9300/wifi board, pentium dual core 5400, 2gb ram, 32bit win7..

I'm not to keen on with the onboard audio with this motherboard, it's the Realtek chip and in my opinion rather a pain to setup and configure to my liking. Thinking about adding an add on card!

Eventually when OM is more stable with Win7 64bit(although most of the testing on my laptop is with 64bit) i'll be switching back to that.

    Hope you found this helpful.

WOW, Zotac seems to be a popular board! I am running the Zotac 9300 G-E with hopefully a Q9550S for the Dual Zone setup.

Multi Zone has a Zotac 610i with E8200.

I have received very good performance from the zotac boards, running 2 of them in HTPC's as well. Like i stated early, i'm just not happy with the Realtek on board audio!

well, i originally had a atom-based intel board, and like all other intel mo-bo's i have used, had quirks that annoyed me to ditching it..

i like asus, but they seem to just use boards based off of zotac's line, so...

So we all agree that Zotacs are awesome!!!!!!!!!!

As far as the RealTek audio, I agree. I use the onboard audio only for phone. For main audio I use a Sound Blaster card.

Zotac is actually on my preferred list for upgrade due to their popularity and features.

I am also curious to see how little horsepower some folks are using and still find they have an acceptably performing CarPC.

@jpmac: Seems like you have a decent audio setup. I currently have the stock Nissan speakers with the 100W amp (name escapes me but I recall an acceptable brand). Wired with no fade, 25W per. While I know the speakers can be replaced with a little better, and a small sub will enhance the sound, larger wattage isn't my thing at this point in my life.

My future plan included the possibility of Zone 2 being two headrest monitors sharing the same video, input device, audio. Not sure though if that works or if I just go 3 zones, but I hope to upgrade pieces at a time (save the big hit on the wallet). Which begs the question of you experienced folks: Are the on-board ports of those Zotac boards usable concurrently (ie; for use as seperate zones)?

I agree with you on louder and more powerful speakers not being the thing at this point in my life, hence i only am running a 8" 500watt sub. However i went with the better door speakers for the purpose of surround sound on movies. My kids love it when they can play a movie in the car, they prefer it over watching one in the house, it sounds so much better in the car...lol!

Well the way I have my setup is, I am running 2 zones. Zone 1 (Main screen through onboard HDMI) is setup up for driver/front passanger. This is completely independent from zone 2 (4 rear headrest monitors). Zone 2 has its own audio(usb addon audio device) and video(on board vga to rca conversion). I know that OM Dev's are currently in the process implementing a multi-input backend into the software that will allow for easy setup of multiple mice and keyboards to be setup for each zone!

When you say on-board vga -> RCA, does this mean your board supports the HDMI + VGA concurrently as two seperate displays?

I'm already impressed with the zoning so far. I fired up OM at work here, with laptop + external monitor and BAM it automatically set itself for two zones. Awesome.
