question on current state of 0.9 build

I'm playing around with zones, in preparation for when I get the rest of my gear.

The OM build I've been playing with seems to be doing pretty good. Unfortunately I have issues with assigning mice to each zone.

I am presented with 3 different "mice" to attach. The "default", the touchpad, and an HID-compliant mouse. I indeed have one touchpad and two mice.

No matter how I assign each device to a zone, I do not get any good results. I can move either device and the pointer moves along. In full screen, sometimes it will be restricted (ie; pointer will not cross zones as it will when not full screen), but still produce results on another screen, and when you click, the click will register on one or more screens.

Is this a known issue (since 0.9 is not complete) or am I not doing something that I should (quite likely)?

There will still be issues with 0.9 since it's not complete.

I haven't tested the multimouse setup yet but as far as I've understood it connects each mouse to it's specific screen when starting and running in fullscreen. If you're running in windowed mode then this is disabled to allow the mouse to pass between windows.

It's supposed to limit the mouse to not pass between screens in fullscreen as this would move the mouse input to a different zone. In fullscreen the configured mouse will only work on the configured screen.
    Failure is not an option...

Pretty much as I figured. I am pretty much trying to get a head start, and give some feedback and learn what to expect.

I have seen this behavior. Mouse will travel across screens in windowed mode. Full screen is a bit different than described.

The cursor itself is restricted in full-screen. However, the "hover" still moves in the other screens. And indeed, if I click on anything, the input is registered on more than one zone. This may be due to an issue I describe a little further down.

In the setup screen, defining inputs (mouse/keyboard) may work as intended, but (just guessing from other programming experience) perhaps there is an issue with listing the available items. I speak more about the mouse because I only had two keyboards for three zones. A little overview of the test setup:

    • Macbook with integrated screen, keyboard, touchpad, sound
    • External monitor via mini DVI adapter, USB keyboard, USB mouse, sound
    • External monitor via USB adapter, USB mouse, USB sound
    • No touchscreens available for this "bench testing"

Let me say that for some reason, the Macbook, under Bootcamp/Win7, shows two internal sound devices (possible confusion #1) but OM does detect it as two zones.

OM gives me only two choices for mouse input: "touch pad" and "HID-compatible mouse". Both USB mice have the same text description in Device Manager, and only 1 shows for choices in OM. This is where I'm wondering. OM logic somehow combines the identical strings as one choice.

Keyboard input can also be detected in more than one zone, but this isn't an optimal test scenario as I only have two keyboards (integrated and USB). But button highlights will move on more than one screen when pressing arrow keys, etc.

One additional observation: Using video playback as the test case, I can get individual playback (two different movies concurrently) only when properly set up. Yes, that's an obvious point. But to get properly set up one must assign the correct devices to the correct zone. As intended, each audio device becomes a zone. Each device is listed in the setup screen as OM sees it. Each item in a device list seems to be in order from zone 1 to zone 'x' as OM sees it. It seems that audio #1 might need to be paired with mouse #1 and keyboard #1 (as in the order they appear in the list). I'm thinking that, if this observation is indeed how it currently functions, it may not be practical. One may not be guaranteed to have plugged in devices appear in the correct order. At best, the user would have to attach devices for one zone at a time and hope for the best. But changing devices later (failure, upgrade, etc.) would change up the ordering. Also, navigating to the video source folder shows blanks in any zone that is not set up properly.

Again, these are just observations. If I am perceiving things incorrectly, folks are more than welcome to educate me. I am after all just testing, learning and sharing feedback.
