    gestures and relating to skins

I was reading the "graphically talented people wanted" as it popped into my email, but of course it's a closed thread ...

Anyways, with regards to the post by John, I'm quoting this:
I've started with this. Not the best color scheme, but it shows how I would like to see option(s) to swipe left/right or click left/right arrows to move on to another page of menu items.
Could be useful for anyone here and not just myself, but I haven't looked into gesture code. I know that you can't start a gesture over an OMList, but are gestures handled per skin coding or per the framework/graphics cores? Meaning, can we turn on/off gestures, re-code what certain gestures do, etc?

Sorry didn't notice this thread until now!

Right now gestures are system wide and it works by recognizing characters, you can turn it on or off but by creating a new custom control and handling it in the control itself.
    Failure is not an option...

I actually kind of forgot about this too... However, in the android skin thread, I remember reading gesture code inside the ui plugin. Maybe gestures are system wide, but recognizing the characters in a skin basis?

Character based gestures are anachronistic, IMHO. CF has them, I can't get to use them. I'd like to see gesture just like the one's we see on the iOS/Android/WebOS devices instead (one/two/three finger swipes, flicks, zoom in/out, rotate, etc.).

While most likely possible - how many have mutli-touch in their car?

True, but it's growing numbers. Now flick gesture and/or swipes (one finger of course) should work for basic UI navigation (instead of the archaic and ubiquitous "next page" button all skins must have). It should work on single touch resistive, as I have tested using IE9+win7+Xenarc combo. Usually this is just made for "iLists" but it should be implemented to the full UI. You don't even have to think of a single page sequence, you can think of the UI as seeing just a bit, a glimpse of a giant bigger panel (like Windows Phone 7/Metro UI), and maybe to make a difference, you could flick up, down, sideways and the pages would go change accordingly like this:

    ABC
    CDE
    EFG

Where "D" would be your "home" page, flick up to go to page "B" or sideways to go to "C" or "E" instead of a long sequence "ABCDEFG" where "A"is the starting point - most skins/FEs are like this, and this is archaic. IMHO, it's much more intuitive and faster in the car, because you just need ONE flick to get to whatever point you want. So flip up for NAV, Down, Radio, maybe even diagonal flick to "G"=settings, etc.

I don't disagree with you at all... I've never used your metro skin, windows 7 phones, or the dev windows 8 (man did I want to though)...

Please, take this with a grain of salt. What's the difference between a flick and gesture? A flick, as I know it, corresponds to an ilist, which will scroll the list with a flick of the finger, can we easily accept a flick to correspond to movement of pages? A gesture is more precise when figuring out the directional input.

If you talk about this method:
    ABC
    CDE
    EFG

where do we draw the line? What's on each screen? Is it up to the user? Are there multiple plugins/etc that can be confined to each A/B/C screen? Is everything pre-defined? If D is the home screen/main menu, do we have to go left/up, then up/left to the to the A screen?

EDIT: Hmm, apparently I can't read as you stated the directional inputs to which screen to show as an example. Apologies here.
