The gauges are honestly hokey at best, but they work. It wouldn't be hard to modify them to get different parameters out [actually, it's really easy if you're willing to edit source, since I do go through a central point deciding which parameters show].
I actually got halfway through adding hybrid battery voltage to this list of supported PIDs last night.
I guess another way to look at it is "it may not meet all your needs yet, but it's a hell of a lot closer than anything else if you're in the realm of I was even thinking about writing the software myself". Mainly I latched onto your phrase "and record" because I think I do that better than anyone else right now :-D
ElmScan Compact 5 USB
I currently use an OBDLink for most of my development. I don't actually own an elmscan5 to test against yet, although I see no reason it wouldn't work.
I have checked obdgpslogger with cygwin fairly recently and it worked fine.
This is a long shot, but if this is still being actively developed, I'd love to help. I'm an MIS student, and have a strong Windoze/MacOS/Linux background and am becoming a better programmer by the day.
