Thread: HORM help please

Make sure you are using the horm.dat file extracted from the XPeSP2FeaturePack2007.iso found here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Ohh your in luck here are the extracted files I'm using Ewf-Horm files.zip

Hmmm just had a thought if you already have EWF up and running and attempting to copy the horm.dat file to the root of C: while EWF is enabled the change would not be saved when you reboot as EWF was enabled.

Just in case make sure you disable EWF by running "ewfmgr c: -commitanddisable –live" then copy the horm.dat to the root of C:

Renable EWF with the "ewfmgr c: -enable" command then reboot check and make sure the horm.dat is in the root of C: after the reboot, hibernate then restart hopefully horm should be working for you

I suggest you make two .bat files one to disable EWF and the other to Enable EWF they come in handy when making changes.

Okay i'll try that. I created my own horm.dat so i'm sure that replacing this file will fix the problem.

The .bat files are a GREAT idea!! Much much much much faster.
I have:
One for the status
One to commit and disable live
and One to enable and reboot

First time ever making a .bat file but i think they will do the job.

I'm making a CD with the files right now, I'll post back and tell how it goes.

You don't have to make a cd if you have winrar open the winrar console and just extract the files. You could also use the files in my zip.

Works Perfect! The time that it takes for windows to log off and go into the hibernation screen is a long time... Is this normal?

Hmm I never had that issue might depend on your system. You could try defraging then running bootvis

Hibernation times went back to normal once i removed the extra *.dll's from my system32 folder that I had added from your zip file. Bootvis says that it only takes 1.15 seconds!!! But that is with nothing running, and only a mouse, keyboard, monitor plugged in. I cant wait to load up RR and see what my boot times are going to be!

for HORM to work, do i actually have to have EWF working?

while i do have a CF/IDE stuff, its sitting in a drawer on my desk, and i'd just as soon not use it, but i'd love to be able to still use HORM with out disabling the ability to write to the drive

yes, you must use EWF to use HORM
