Thanks SFiorito. I did not know that was available. I dabbled with the Platform Builder a few years ago but never got serious because I figured if I built something worth keeping it would just quit after a couple of months when the trial time expired. Now I just may have another look at it.

The task of customizing winCE is a fairly major software development effort. If you aren't up to finding the development package you need from the leads we gave, you probably don't need it anyway. It's not like any of us know the answer to your question and just aren't telling you.

Microsoft has some developer forums that can help you once you get started searching for the version of Platform Builder that you will need.

I thought that I changed some files and that's it! I didn't have in mind that I should develop the OS from the beginning. I have found some configuration files on the system , but I don't know , if I can re-configure them.....

    Well, surprise, you can't.

WinCE was made with certain devices in mind, such as smartphones, PDAs and such.

These devices do not require a highly modifiable system such as XP. The hardware producers have the WinCE development Kit and they make a Operating System that suits their hardware. You can't exchange the GFX card in a PDA or smartphone, therefore there is no need for te user to install new drivers. Hence, no device manager. This holds true for most other system features as well.

If you are advanced enough, you can most likely download the current ROM image for the OS from the device and hack it to your liking. However, this requires in-depth technology understanding and skills and it is still likely that you turn your device into a paperweight if re-flashing the new OS goes wrong.
