Hibernation doesn't require ANY power. Nothing needs to be maintained. Windows writes the resume data to a file. You should be able to hibernate the computer, unplug it, take it to another location, plug it back in and resume right were you left off.

Even when setting the system to hard off after 45 seconds, the compute will still draing the battery. I have mine to hard off after 45 seconds and using hibernation, and if I leave my for a week without using it, the battery will be drained. For daily driving and up to 3-4 days of non use, it's fine though.

Even with hibernation, the boot time for that board is really slow though. If you want a good fast boot, go with the Jetway 1.5GHz. From hibernation to playing music is about 15 seconds.

I have also had the problem with an m2-atx killing a battery when I use hibernation. It seems that with my system however, hibernation doesn't actually work and it seems to get stuck at the stage where the power should be cutoff.

I wonder if it is just a bad m2-atx or if there is something else wrong.

Well that is not the way it is supposed to work, at least not according to the M1/2-ATX instructions. When HARDOFF is set, it is supposed to cut power completely. The M1/2-ATX doesn't wake up again until it sees the ignition signal when you turn on the car. The M1/2-ATX does not require any type of "standby power" to sense the ignition signal.

It sounds like you may have another device in your car that is draining your battery and/or your battery is damaged and slowly failing.

I think so too. Or you have another device that's draining your battery or you have a bad power suply (something is wrong with it) or your battery really needs to be replaced. When "Hardoff" is enabled the PSU isn't supose to drain anymore power.

Well, you guys give it a try to see if it works. Leave your car using hibernation for a full week and you'll see. I know that the power supply is supposed to work that way, but it doesn't. I have a new battery and have used diff. power supplies.

I've done it several times without a problem. But I'm using a Carnetix P-2140.

In my old setup (Jetway MB with Pico psu, and MSI MB with Pico PSU) I parked the car for days with no problem.

Now I have an Intel D945GCLF2 and an M2 ATX and when I parked it down at the shore for three days, the battery wasa dead when I went to start it.

Always use hibernate, never used suspend.

Im not arguing with anyone who says that a computer when hibernated does not require any power, Ive taken it out of the car many times, it boots back up no problem.

But thats not what we are talking about here. What we are talking about is that in some configurations, if you leave the pc in hibernate, you may have a dead battery when you come back after several days.

I guess it depends on the car, the electrical system, the MB and the PSU.

Im pretty sure if you put a small light bulb at the end of 1000 feet of wire hooked up to your battery with a switch, even if you left the switch off, your battery would be drained after a few days. I have no idea how or why (not an electrical engeneer or anything) but some things just put a draw on the system.

At any rate, mine never went dead before the M2, and its going dead now, so . . .

I'll rewire it so that if I'm leaving the car for a few days I'll be able to completely cut the constant and acc lines to the pc.
PDP1170/TRS80/Atari800XL/Amiga500/286/486/P2/P4/C2D still a newb (but an old newb, been doing this a while) working my way up to "Complete Newb"
