Try unplugging all USB devices then test the shutdown speed...

If it changes for better: likely some usb driver/software is your problem -- in this case, plug one by one USB device and shutdown in between each device you plug ... time each shutdown and see what the cost (in time) of each device is.

If you see no changes: You likely have some service running that is taking some time to shutdown... you can try disabling any services you don't need and/or opening device manager and disable any device you don't use. There's also a registry setting to set how long a service/application has (in seconds) to terminate after a shutdown request -- reducing this amount can help a lot in some cases.

Do you have any idea how mind-bogglingly ludicrous this sounds?

Recently my carpc takes like 20 to 30 sec to shutdown... i googled and tried a few suggestions but none of them resolved my problem... Any of you guys have had this problem before and have some suggestions for me that worked for you?

There's a whole bloody forum devoted to OS optimization that has a wealth of suggestions for speeding up startup and shutdown times.
But NOOOOOO.
You believe you know what will get you the best and fastest response, so you post in the RoadRunner forum. Un-freakin-believable.

Aside from your gross ignorance of what is appropriate and what is not, you also provided no information to even begin to assist in speeding up the shutdown time.
It would help to know your OS, your system specs, what hardware devices you have connected, are you doing a full shutdown or hibernate, and so on.

On an unrelated note... Why is the shutdown time a huge deal? 30 seconds is not particularly slow for a full shutdown.

Guino offered a couple of good suggestions, and it's certainly a good place to begin, anyway.

How can you expect to get a good answer to question if you cant wait for it. Wow the nerve of some peoples kids these days. What are parents teaching there kids these days anyway. Did you listen to them when they said go to school. If you did you would have a better understanding of life in the real world. Yes I said it, the real world (mp3car.com).
I am pretty offended by the fact that some one has the nerve to post in this forum with an unrelated topic when forum guidlines are clearly spelled out in black and white. If you want to break it down, what you did violates the rules of these forums.
It's generally considered poor forum etiquette in general.
It also makes you appear so self-absorbed that you feel your issue is the most important thing that this community needs to address by crossposting the same question within 24 hours of one another. We're not here to adhere to your time schedule. Sorry if that inconveniences you, but its fact.
Lastly, it dilutes the RR forum (in this specific instance) with unrelated information. As helpful as that information might be, it is, as they say, off-topic, which makes it that much more difficult for other users trying to find information about a given subject.

I'm the first one to admit that I was harsh in my response. If that set you off, then I'm sorry. However, you're also going to remember this the next time you consider posting inappropriately.

My bluntness is off-putting to some, and I realize that. If you have a hard time with someone telling you exactly how it is without prettying up anything, then that's your problem to deal with.

And the only think that makes me at all clown-like is my ability to juggle, which is half-arsed at best.

After all this I still dont see your system specs or anything to even try and help diagnose the problem...
